I’m going to have to hold my tongue… [;)]
The previous version of the OC forum was very good, but some have reservations about this recent new forum software. Having said that, it is early days and there’s lots to sort out…
I hope that the design, use, layout, and functionality of this new forum is resolved quickly and it can get back to being as useful and popular as the old one was.
Choosing the best forum is a lot like choosing the best pub, or restaurant.
Each one will have its own class of user, who brings different things to the forum.
This forum is generally speaking pretty formal, and full of people who know what they are talking about.
For the short time I was over at MX-5.com I noticed that there were a lot of people who did not know what they were talking about, providing advice, which is quite frankly dangerous.
If you prefer a night club to a pub, then perhaps MX5 Nutz, because from what I can tell, pretty much anything goes over there, which personally I don’t really like in a forum.
At the end of the day, this forum is backed by a club, which produces its own magazine, and does plenty of events in local areas, and nationally. To me, it is always going to be the obvious choice.
If you have a look at the posts, they are all answered quickly, and with good information on either the solution, or where to find the solution (in the large FAQ bank, or over at miata.net/garage for instance).
Fair enough, the new forum software is a bit controversial, but I’ve grown to really like it, and at the end of the day, it is where a lot of sites are heading (MX-5.com for one has the same setup), since it allows full integration with the site, which the standard PHP forums that everybody seems to have grown up with, cannot easily allow.
