Best Product for stripping Powder Coat

I want to strip some powder coated wheels to bare metal. The power coat is ruined. For obvious reasons, taken them to someone to be blasted is not possible right now, and I’ve also read the blasting media needed to take the powdercoat off will pit the alloy anyhow.

Is there such a product that can be used at home to strip this coating? Frosts used to sell an American product, Eastwood DeKote, that would claim to strip powdercoat, but no longer list it.

We used to need to do this occasionally at work; the solvent is absolutely dreadful stuff, carcinogenic, needs special precautions. See the Wiki article for a more modern replacement, still dreadful though.

Yeah, I know there are industrial solvents, and dip tanks. I’ve tried Nitromors, Just turned it green. There is acetone. Also needs special precautions.

What about xylene? That seems to upset most materials

Well, I could try it, but I think the thinners I’ve tried befoe were Xylene based, and they didn’t touch it. Plus whatever I need to get, it needs to be available for online delivery, and in, I suppose, 2 liter quantities, so I can set a bath for the wheel centres. Its a bit difficult to right now experiment with solvents.

This stuff worked:
Starchem Synstryp

Nasty stuff, had to wear a full visor to pour this stuff. Use outside, the fumes were bad.

But it worked.

The powder coat basically softens, and you use a paint scraper to get it off.
