Any body know where I can buy better seats for the mx5 mk3, after 50 miles, I can’t move because of back pain.
Swop the car for a mk2. Can drive mine for hours without any discomfort.
Perhaps someone can come up with a more useful suggestion then that, since my MX5 is a new car, maybe more in the line of aftermarket reclining seats, that will fit the MX5 Mk3.
I have stolen this link from a post
originally made by SAZ9961. It might be of some use.
After a lot of reseach on the Internet, it seems that my only answer is to upgrade to a RX8 R3, which I have test driving, and the seats are very comfortable, nice car to drive. What put me off the RX8 before was the high running cost compared with the MX5, but when you are six foot two, the MX5 is not a good option, shame because I like the car.
So having put someone down for suggesting swapping cars, you are… swapping cars? lol [;)]
Yes, you are right on the upper height limits for an MX-5, althought of course it varies depending on whether your height is in your torso or legs predominantly. I am 6’1 and have back trouble and found that the Mk1 was oddly the roomiest for my dimensions! I love RX-8s, but I would miss the open sky above me. Perhaps you could get a used RX-8 as an everyday car and a cheap Mk1 for weekend jaunts in the sun?
The main problem was that I am 6’ 2", and although leg room wasn’t too much of a problem, using a cushion to help with the seats, meant my head was touching the roof, lol, and I felt slightly cramped, I could only drive 50 miles, before having to get out and walk around, like you I have a back problem which needed good seats and plenty of room.
Fact is I love the RX8 also, always have, just the £405.00 a year Tax (post March 2006 cars), and higher insurance was something that put me off. This car is my second car, my Transit Van is my work horse, and my wife has a car also, which makes three vehicles parked on my drive, lol, the R8X is a joy to drive, it has more room and Recaro seats which are comfortable, the R3 version is a fantastic car, one I will enjoy owning.
What I will miss is the open top, not had it down much due to the weather, and bad timing when we did have time to go out, I always wanted to drive through the mountains in Scotland with the top down, although around town driving, I always felt too open, and getiing to Scotaland would have been painful.
Well, I be getting the RX8 on the 18th of this month, so will most likely be joining the RX8 club next year, lol.
Thanks again
Keith.
