Whilst I am giving my newly acquired but weary mk3 the TLC it deserves , like a full service, cleaning and proofing the softop , polish and wax among other things, I have been looking at the Mx5 parts and Moss Europe on line shops and noticed a pair of chrome effect horse shoe shaped covers that fit onto the back of the headrest /protective bars .
Has anyone fitted these and are they good quality ? as Im not usually one to bling my cars up , but I have seen several cars with theses fitted and I think they look quite smart , but didnt want to waste money on something that looks naff or will fly off when Im in the fast lane of the motorway .
I fitted some used silver ones from a sport model on mine - straight swap over and much better looking than the standard black plastic ones. Cost me about £30 off ebay, if I remember correctly.
Had a pair of the stick on chrome ones on my NC. Bought second hand and used the existing tape. They did occasionally start to come slightly loose but just pushed them back. Should really have used some new tape but I would say that 3M tape is perfectly adequate. The wind swirls round in that area rather than blasting them. Can’t imagine there would be any danger of them flying off under any circumstances. Chrome finish was good and never marked, pitted or tarnished in the 5 years I had the car and they weren’t new when I got them. External chrome trim can get a bit grotty with the weather but as these will be inside the car whenever the weather is bad then they should last years.
