Wonder if anyone has had a similar problem with an Audio-link Bluetooth unit purchased from MX5 parts. I was hoping to keep the existing radio/CD unit and just add a telephone connection.
Having removed existing Mazda double din unit from the dash on a NB and connected unit to back of radio/CD unit. I have no phone or music connection either by Bluetooth or Ipod wired into Audio-link unit. The unit has a blue light on and is charging I pod.
There are no installation instructions or fault finding kit with the unit and You Tube and the net information is very limited .
Once installed, I selected the ‘CD’ option on my headunit, I then navigated to the bluetooth option on my phone and scanned the area. Audiolink showed up, I selected it and it connected easy. It’s worth noting, I had to turn the ignition on and off twice for the unit to start working as intended the first time.
Now it connects to the phone every-time automatically, and when a call is incoming I press number ‘6’ on the headunit to receive the call.
make sure your bluetooth volume on your phone/ipod is at max.
That being said, you might have a faulty unit. I know mine says “Phone 2 connected” everytime they pair up.
But I also know that the usb conection on the module is for charging only. It should have a little charge icon on the module above the usb slot. Mine will kill the bluetooth function when a device gets plugged in to charge, so I have used a separate car charger to charge my phone if needs be to prevent the bluetooth from failing. I can charge or use bluetooth on the module, but not both at the same time.
I did try all connected units at max volume and connected I pod via charging lead with audio connection adapter which works on my other car. I have contacted supplier and they seem to think it may be a faulty unit/lead. So I am awaiting replacement unit. Will update once this arrives.
Well I know to switch between the aux lead and the bluetooth you need to press “2” on your headunit. This would change disks if the original 6 cd changer was plugged into the HU. The module simulates changing “disks” as if the cd changer was plugged in. so “disk 1” is your BT and “disk 2” is the aux lead. I’m sure you know this already but the 3.5mm jack on the back next to the loom is for the microphone for handsfree calls, the one on the front is the audio in jack.
The head unit appears to not recognise between CD1 and CD2 when unit is plugged in. However when disconnected the head unit CD will play when reconnected CD stops operating
I fitted the unit in my Mk2 and plugged into the external CD multi changer connection in the rear of the head unit.May be the same for your Mk3 unit. Just a quick update regarding the unit there are no instructions with the unit and I found it is a bit of trial and error to understand how it works.Although the suppliers of the unit are really helpful in explaining how the unit can be connected to your phone.
Having had bluetooth audio units in several other vehicles. I found the operation and connection of the phone to the head unit rather long winded. May have been better to get a replacement head unit with bluetooth, however I wanted to keep the interior original.
That’s the one you need. It will plug into the socket nearest the aerial on the back of your HU. It will replace the 6 CD changer if you have one installed. I pulled the whole centre console out to place the box part of the cable in front of the gear stick. But placement is up to you. I ran the mic cable up under the dash cowling to the steering wheel where it won’t get too much wind noise.
