BLYTON 2016

Questions & Answers

If you have any questions that you would like to ask about the  2016 Blyton Event please post them here: Myself or anybody involved with the event will endeavour to answer as soon as practical to keep all members interested in the event informed of any relevant information.

We will be there again if needed chaps in the big bat cave to help solve problems if needed to get you all back home or simply if you just want to pop in for a chat and banter on all things Mx/roadsters.

Come and say hi just for the hell of it , the gang will all be there x

please explain how the sessions are going to work.

Is the novice session split into 3 sessions of 20 minutes ?

Are the morning opl sessions, two sessions of a full hour each?

Interested to see why the morning sessions have changed from being 3 sessions of 20 minutes where all cars could be on track for the whole session. Now the morning  opl where the number of cars exceeds the number of cars allow on track at the same time. E.g. the morning opl opens and 25 cars are on track, I am car 30 in the queue and have to wait 20 minutes before cars start to come off the track before I can go on, I come off after 20/25 minutes let the car cool down before trying to rejoin the track only to find I can’t get back on track before the session ends as the max numberumber of cars are still on track

Hi Pete, glad to see this event coming together already for next year. I have one question;

Are we doing different circuit layouts on each day again?

I appreciate that some will disagree, but I’m very keen to do the East circuit again. Please, please, please, please with a cherry on top?!

Hi Neill, thank you for taking the time to ask a question and show concern about Blyton Next year, The Novice sessions will be 3 twenty minute sessions over the period of the morning, these will be tied in with a full tutorial package for the Novice or little experienced track driver, instructing them on the basics of preparing the car, looking after the car, and driving safe and proficiently on track by a fully qualified instructor. It has always been the intension that Blyton would be the ideal opportunity to encourage total novices to take their cars on track. The reason for the other sessions being changed from this year, is due to the lack of take up with the experienced and to a lesser extent the intermediate sessions, as well as Blyton not being able to police the pit lane and get all cars on track allocated to that session straight away. This was put down to the quality of driving and not allowing gaps for cars to be put on track. To over come this we have put 2 one hour slots with a 20 minute break for the morning OPL, with the total of cars less than this year, this will work if people do like this year on the OPL’s and do a stint and then return to the queue in the pit lane to allow their car to cool and check it over whilst still filtering on circuit. This would allow the cars to stay in order to return on circuit after the 20 minute novice slot allowing a fair share of track time. This year experienced and Intermediate were £40 & £35 for one hour in the morning session, next year we are offering 2 hours for just £5 more.  At the briefings it is always suggested that owners do no more than 15/20 minutes on circuit to look after their cars.

I hope this is of some help.

Please feel free to PM me if you do have any more concerns.

Peter

Hi Guys, I hope you and the white one are well?

As much as I like the eastern circuit as well, due to it being more technical and difficult to drive, it does have its draw backs especially on the OPL’s, where due to the different standards on track we get a lot of tailbacks of cars which can cause difficulty for the less experienced driver.

Following feedback from this years event, we have taken the decision to stay with the outer circuit to allow better overtaking and reduce the amount of tailbacks, it also allow for more time on track due to less sighting laps taking place, as you only need to do it once for the whole weekend. I am sure that there will be others like yourselves who have a favourite, unfortunately it is very difficult to please everybody.

Regards

Pete

Thanks for the response Pete. It’s a pity we can’t do the East circuit, but I understand you have to run it the way you want.

Hope everything goes smoothly for you in the run up to the event.

Shame!

Bring back the Eastern CCT

Andrew

Awesome news! The Intermediate session on the Eastern Circuit was like being stuck in rush hour traffic last year. Good riddance to it!

Long live the Outer Circuit!

I got out on the eastern circuit for some clear laps , chasing a very well driven Mk1, and that was awesome. Then Miss Daisy’s chauffer came out and it dissolved into a slow traffic jam. I agree it is not good on OPL with mixed speeds (talent)

I have a request…

If a driver pulls off line to enable a pass and then keeps it pinned so that the driver behind cannot complete the pass. Can the lead driver please be black flagged for a little chat?

The etiquette at the Blyton Bash is actually much higher than average. But this was still happening all weekend.

The spin in this video is 100% my fault. I’m ashamed to admit, I was overdriving because I had finally lost my rag with it.

Thanks Lee, Good point. I know where you are coming from and it happens all over the country, I will ensure that the person doing the briefing makes a point of putting this across to all drivers that if you indicate for somebody to pass on the correct side, (right at Blyton) you must lift off the throttle to allow them to do so. If they do not a little chat could be in order.

Pete

good riddance that the eastern circuit will not be used!  much more technical indeed, but far less fun and more difficult to get past people holding you up. i liked the challenge…until my tyres melted

+1 on the lifting off thing from me too. i got really annoyed by that this year and ended up tailgating people round the track until they got the message. our cars are all similarly powered so the speed difference comes from the corners!

also just thought of a question:

i want to do OPL on saturday afternoon, then the sunday morning OPL - Blyton is a long way away from me so this allows me ample time to get to and from the circuit within the two days, plus i don’t want to do give the car a full day’s punishment when i could split that over 2 days

given that this equates to a full day of OPL, but split between Saturday and Sunday, would it be possible to get that for the price of the all day plus camping? as currently i’d be paying £129 and i’m a poor student grovel grovel please sir can i have some more

East Circuit sees your mean comments and now it feels sad.

East Circuit thinks you guys need to man up and learn how to drive technical corners.

East Circuit would approve of improved marshaling and black flags for those who do not pull over and lift.

Don’t you want to make East Circuit a happy track again?

Hi

ive been to Blyton a couple of times and have loved it. I’ve only done a few laps in the novice sessions each time so think it would be a stretch to describe myself as an experienced track-dayer.

Would it make sense to book into the novice instruction sessions on Saturday morning and also the afternoon opl on Saturday afternoon? This seems like an ideal combo rather than the all day opl as that might see me holding up the experienced drivers.

Cheers

Kam.

That’s a very good plan (and some of the thinking to the structure of doing the event this way), build up your confidence and experience while learning from some very experienced drivers in the morning and have fun in the afternoon!

Fantastic. Thanks Ian.

All booked up (Xmas present ). Now all I have to do is practice my heel and toe on the Paddington slip on my way to work in the mornings!

I’m booked and looking forward to it. I love that Eastern circuit and it’s a real shame that it has been omitted from the weekend. Still looking forward to catching up (on and off track) with the regulars.
