The combined OPL trackday and sprint days with MOT are back!
First off - these days are a right laugh with a bunch of really good people. Even better if you have a group of friends there too - the banter is brilliant fun and I seriously recommend you come along!!
There is always a strong MX5 presence with some great people with both Mazdas and other marques in the mix. The previous years have been fantastic fun, lots of banter, lots of close times and most of all a really good bunch with excellent track manners that result in a brilliant day for all. Honestly, if you are just thinking of doing one day this year, make it this one (aside from Blyton 15 of course).
And copied from that link, because I just know someone will ask without looking… -

The MOT Trackdays Sprints are designed to give you maximum adrenaline for your buck. Open pitlane "practice" in the morning run to track day rules followed by a you against the clock Sprint in the afternoon.
Price includes IOPD day competition licence.
No complicated class structure, three "serious" trophies up for grabs.
Fastest Lap Fastest 4 laps Most consistent
and undoubtedly we will have the best racing driver excuse and "taking it way too seriously" awards amongst others.
These are fun sprints, but times matter and you can see our leader board and more information by clicking the relevant tab above.
Final points:- While it quite possible to share a car to take part in the Sprint, unlike track days where you share your time on track with another driver, in Sprint each driver gets their own time on track and so there are only some very small reductions for sharing a car.
We would also advise that no more that 4 drivers can share one car as there is insufficient time to change drivers between each run and maintain proper running order with the other competitors.
Passengers are only allowed on the morning track day, no passengers are allowed on sprint runs.
Yes, I do have some discount. Its only £10 for early bookings, but thats due to the time of year still being around high-season along with the cost of the insurance, equpment hire, extra staff etc etc. MOT are doing this as cheaply as they can, I assure you of that. Usual thing re the discount - I have a code which can be gotten by PM only and please do NOT pass it on to others - point them to me instead. If the discount code appears on Google to all and sundry then it gets killed and we dont want that or undesirables on track.
Anything thats track ready is allowed. But it has to be a car...
Figured now would be a good time to give this a bump after the Blyton do.
It will be the outer circuit and track etiquette on these days has always been as good as it comes.
There are quite a few MX5s already booked in for this amongst other marques, but mostly MX5s so far. The RX8 OC are threatening to turn up with a few cars and I am aiming to bring the CRX along.
When you say “track ready” does that mean just track cars or could I come along in my road car, I know I wouldn’t be competitive but could I enter just for fun or would I look silly in a road mx5
By track ready I mean suitable and safe to use on the track. Generally, if a car can pass an MOT then it will be fine, do bare in mind you might like it to get you home too though.
Most cars that attend are simply road cars with perhaps some more track orientated tyres and brake pads that can take a bit more heat than OEM pads. But with a little sympathy for tyres and pads, theres no reason at all why a normal road car cant have some fun - they regularly do and are sometimes rather bloomin quick too!
You may be surprised at just how close the times are on the sprint: advantages such as super sticky tyres and pads are lost as they dont get time to get to working temperature from a standing start single lap, and with Blyton being quite wiggly, theres little room to make use of a big power advantage on the short straights. Its close stuff.
After reading some of the comments from Blyton 2015 regarding the varied levels of driving ability out on track that day, may I throw you guys a video showing the always present etiquette on MOT Trackdays at Blyton that may ease any concerns about just what to expect -
I may look at booking on to this it’s my birthday on the 17th so I may as well treat myself.
A quick question on the pricing. My Mrs may want to drive, but I doubt she would do the timed session (as she’s not done many track days). The price for a second driver seems pretty steep, I’m guessing this is because they take up a timed slot in the afternoon (this seems to be the expensive part of the day). Is there a price available to just drive in the morning as a 2nd driver and not in the timed session. That way it’s not really adding much to the organisers costs.
Thanks!
Rob
(my first post, and I’m already being difficult. Sorry )
Hi Andy, you will find that you can turn up at most open track day events and be accepted. Blyton is an ideal track for the MX5. I would suggest that you take a helmet with you as you should be able to get a passenger ride with anybody willing to take you out. If you are not sure please go and see Nick at MOT who will be give you more information.
However… A friend cant make it, so his place is up for grabs.
Hes paid for the full day - open pit lane morning and afternoon sprint session along with a passenger ticket.
If you contact me as he has given me his number, paypal etc to help with spreading the word, daft for a place to be left unused.
The day is fully booked now and this is the only free space that Im aware of. Swapping with someone has been cleared as being fine with MOT, not a problem, all is kosher.
It was a cracking day all round, couldnt have asked for better.
The morning session was 99% flag free, didnt see a single red, just one yellow and track manners were the usual MOT day standard ie - Bloody Refreshing.
In the afternoon Nicks concerns about getting all the runs done in the time werent founded, despite some drivers “extra efforts” at times It ran flawlessly to be honest.
Erm, I may have missed a run and thereby caused the following car to miss theirs as he was watching for my car… yes. I was busy talking and chilling in the sun, just enjoying the day. Thats my excuse and Im standing by it!
APRIL 2016 has been labelled as being the next one. A date will follow once MOT have their year organised and yes, I will spam it on all sensible forums that brought sensible people to a great sell out day last time that ran without hiccup. (Nick may have hit the red wine when he got home though
Big thanks to those that came, behaved, had fun, socialised, bantered and entered into the spirit.
