body kit adhesive

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a decent adhesive for fitting bodykits?

Have skirts fitted but a bit loose at bottom front edge & also just bought boot spoiler which is flush fitting (not on legs) which i want to fix to bootlid.

thanks in advance for any help!

Mike

As long as you degrease everything properly i find silicone is as good as you can get, just don’t use too much and allow it time to go off.

Good call! I keep looking for a boot spoiler for my Mk 2 but just can’t seem to find one!

Malcolm I Agree

Just bought this one for my mk1 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120806966663?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Had a guy called Stuart offer me one from his mk2 have a look on this link http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/36377.aspx

might be worth messaging him…

According to my two sons who are in to this kind of thing from a boy racer point of view the thing to use is Tiger Seal, I’ve seen it in action and it seems to work. I don’t think Halfords stock it but Wilco Motosave do. Google it and see the write ups.

Don’t use silicon - it loses its stickiness over time, ages in sunlight, and generally isn’t a very good adhesive. It is fine as a sealant for internal domestic use, but seriously not on cars.

Use Tigerseal - this is the stuff that some manufacturers attach their kits with (under different brand names, but it is the same stuff) and if you stick it on it will not come off despite the significant forces that come from bodykits. If you don’t believe me then just look at the cracks from the force of just the air on a front spoiler.

The other option is caravan sealant/adhesive. Comes usually in white, black and grey, and is pretty much the same stuff as Tigerseal.

Jack.

Thanks,

Have ordered tube of Tiger Seal…

Hopefully that will do the trick!!
