I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: body filler.
I’ve just discovered surface rust around the offside side repeater. I’ve removed the rust and treated the area, then primed and painted the area to protect the area. Unfortunately the surface is now rough.
Normally I’d take it to a body shop but I’m being made redundant so will need to fix it myself.
The last time I did body repairs was on my father’s Marina in the 80s so I’m rather rusty on this.
I wonder what the best easy to sand surface filler is?
I’d like to keep the amount of repainting to a minimum.
There’s no easy way, DIY or body shop for the professional finish
You may get a shop that can blend it in without doing the whole wing.
You can do that yourself with rattle cans and a little filler, the only problem is matching/ blending in the finish. It could stick out like sore thumb or look great, until you try??
I’ve always found the most difficult part is getting the finish correct, the over spray, the pros can polish/blend the paintwork better.
There is also a fine filler for a smoother finish,
Remember to counter sink the area slightly first.
(Got it with a hammer).
If you get genuine Mazda paint with the two pack clear vote you can get a good finish with some elbow grease. I just did a bit in Stratos blue metallic and it was a great match.
