Thinking of getting a set of steel wheels and Winter tyres for use during the next few months. Will the OE bolts be OK to use with steel rims? 2009 NC with OE 17" alloys.
Yes a member a few years ago and I think on MX5scotland got a set of winter tyres on steel wheels like I did for a friends Golf and both parties used the oem fixings with no issues.
Well it rather depends on the wheel.
Yes, I understand that. On my previous car (Citroen C1) the factory alloys used different bolts to the factory steel wheels (with a flat, rather than tapered mating face). I was wondering if there was anything “special” about the OE bolts that might make them incompatible with steel rims. I rather naively assumed that most (if not all) steel rims on the market used tapered bolt seats.
You are not going to know until you get the wheels.
However most car steel wheels do have a conical seat for the nuts, but it does depend on the wheel.
