Bonnet Rattle

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone could help with what i’m sure will be a simple fix but just need to best way to fix it.

My MK1 is rattling from the bonnet catch under Idle, any ideas on the best way to stop it?

If I apply a little pressure the rattle stops.

Thanks in advance.

adjust the bonnet catch & check all the rubbers it seats on are in place

Its probably down to the fact I have no rubber on mine. Will source some and give it a try.

Thanks,

plumers tape around the front catch also works

My bonnet rattles at speed, but only on the front nearside corner. Is that likely a rubber issue or could it point to something slightly more serious, ie it’s had a hefty whack in it’s previous days and isn’t as straight as it should be??

I had the same problem. Couldn’t work out to adjust the bonnet catch so i glued thin patches of rubber onto the stops and smeared a little greese over them. Worked fine [:D]

On the old forum there used to be a post called “How to make adjustable Bonnet Stops”. I have tried to locate it but without success. Maybe if Geoff Walton see’s this he may be able to post it on here. The other alternative is for me to re-post it with the pictures of how to do it.

Thanks for the replys everyone. I have use a little bit of tape as suggested as a short term fix and it seems ok at the moment.

i read on another site, a cheap mod for the rubber beneath the bonnet is to use strips cut from a computer mousemat.
