Boot Bags

If youre off on holiday and worried about not having enough space for all the luggage in the car - but a Boot Bag ! Weve just come back from two weeks in Devon and the amount of stuff we took with us was amazing . I`ve debated for ages about just how good they could be and I was so impressed . No marks on the boot lid , no water got in despite the rain and the straps hold so tight , the bag just did not move .

we are thinking of getting one so glad to hear that they work.

I had a test fit of the luggage in our Mk2 before we set of for a two week holiday to Cornwall. Definately needed a boot bag of sorts, so will get one for next time.

We didn’t go in the Mk2 in the end, good job too my other car looked like it had been to hell and back. What with rain, muddy lanes cow s*** and the like all splattered up it. Well we did stay at a farmhouse B & B so expected really, and I couldn’t have put the Mk2 through that.

We definitely like our MX5 looking clean and tidy and well looked after. But we don’t keep it wrapped in cotton wool. Devon and Cornwall have some great minor roads. Yes they are narrow and bordered with stone walls camouflaged as bushes with grass growing down the center and muddy, where the water runs off from the fields, and the cattle and tractors have passed through. But isn’t this what these great little cars are for, to be enjoyed. Where possible when out on a fun day trip we keep away from the major roads, we find it less stressful and sometimes quicker than sitting in traffic jams. We see places we have never seen before including the watering holes. After a thoroughly enjoyable trip we don’t mind putting the effort into restoring Louie to his normal gleaming self, that means inside, outside and underneath.

You`re right Mick . Those roads are just great for the MX5 but they sure do leave the bodywork dirty , especially after the weather we had over the two weeks we were there . A 5 hour drive home was made better though - I was allowed to have the roof down most of the way !

I bought one a year ago since i have an LPG tank in my boot, so less room than you guys.

Would recommend one over a boot rack as it does’nt mark the boot and is easily  taken off and stored in the boot.

The purpose made boot bags are quite expensive as I recall. I was going to buy them for our “Europe in a Eunos” tour in 2006 when we had our Mk1. In the end I opted for a couple of tarpaulin roll bags from an outdoor shop - about £50 the pair, 100% warerproof should the need arise for them to be and we’ve used them for several trips abroad since, where they’ve been chucked around by baggage handlers at various airports inc two trips to Canada. They really are as tough as old boots and far better value than the purpose made ones, they can be squashed down to fit into any small space. They look decidedly second hand now but still no signs of splits or tears so will be coming with us again this year when we head off to Southern Spain / Portugal and back on a 3 week road trip in the Mk3.5.

Just had look and they’ve not gone up in price since we bought ours - a lot cheaper and more adapatable than the boot bags I’ve seen: http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/hi-gear-lugga-cargo-65-travel-pack-p143462
