Boot Lid Rust

Hello!

My 2000 Roadster has a very small amount of rust on the underside of the bootlid, photo below. I know its common, but is will following be sufficiant;

Rub down with sandpaper

Paint some rust remover on (krust?)

Paint over with touchup stick

I’ve never tackled any rust before so any pointers would be great!

It wouldnt let me post in the bodywork section for some reason!

Cheers

Is your colour code 12K? Looks the same as mine and i’ve recently had a replacement boot sprayed and fitted as mine was badly corroded when i brought it. Looks much better now. I’d rub it down, rust treat, but then paint it over with Smoothrite. Thumbs up

Thanks for your reply!

Yeah its twlight blue 12k! Thankfully that seems to be the only visible rust of my car as yet, its been in the uk for 2 years now!

What rust treatment would you recommend? I assume I just get smoothrite blue, specific shades are not avaliable? Would you paint over the lengh of the boot or just on the spot?

Cheers

Kev

Looks to me like it’s in the seam. Therefore in my experience you won’t be able to get all of it out & whatever you do will just slow the corrosion down…

 In addition to painting, remove the number plate lamp fittings and spray waxoyl liberally to the inside of this area.  It will flow into the seam and prevent rust.  Correction! delay rust, nothing prevents it!

Whilst the above is true it probably wouldn’t hurt to treat best as you can. I’d use a blue or even black smoothrite and carefully run along the inside edge so it looks neat. Its tucked away inside the boot so nobody will really notice.

Thanks everyone!

I have some hammerite krust and will order some smoothrite blue and waxoyl
