Hi, my wife has a 2008 Mazda MX5, for which a boot luggege rack is needed. On Ebay, most of them are advertised as fitting the mark 1 or mark 2 models. My question is whether they would also fit our 2008 mark 3. Thanks in advance,

Morning,
I’m new here myself and learning but I took a look at the MX5parts website
MX5 Parts & Spares for Mazda, Miata, Eunos & Roadster;
and it does appear that the Mk3, which is what you own will not support the Mk 1, 2 or 2.5 boot rack as they are listed differently, I may be wrong but somebody who knows what they are talking about should be along soon, good luck.
Hello Laurence , the Mk3 boot rack is different to the Mk1and Mk2 rack , it is mounted at the sides of the boot lid . The Mk1&2 racks are fitted front and back of the lid .
I have a Mk3 and have modified a Mk1 rack to fit it , do not attempt if you have no mechanical knowledge .
Regards ,
JJ.

Hi
<o:p></o:p>
Mazda do a boot rack at a price, it is only available for the ragtop and includes a brake light built into the rear frame. This has to be wired into the cars loom so if you buy a second-hand one, make sure you get the wiring. (wiring is available as a separate part at Mazda I believe).
<o:p></o:p>
If you have a folding hard top (RC) then Mazda do not do the wiring for this model. Mazda do not recommend you use a boot rack with the folding hardtop just in case you operate the hardtop and foul the boot rack or what is on it.

If you buy an after-market rack or a “Boot Bag”, remember that you may be obstructing the high (ish) level brake light when it is in use.

Richard.
I have a boot rack that fits the MKI and MKII and is mounted at the sides, so I am sure this type would fit.
Thanks, Steve404 for consulting the website. Cheers.
Hi, thanks for the info. No, I would not attempt anything mechanical, as it’s my wife’s car and there would be some personal risk involved if it all went wrong and she cornered me. Thanks again.
Hi Richard. Thanks for the advice. A boot bag sounds promising, so I’ll look into it. Thanks again.
it will still obstruct the light
ok on a mk2 as the light is at the rear
Hi
I have modified a Honda Goldwing trunk rack for use on my roadster coupe. The rack mounts to the rear of the boot lid and the roof storage cover panel clears luggage on the rack (just). This gives me a load platform of 9” x 30”.
One problem that I encountered was boot lid skin distorting under the rear feet of the rack. I thought about using expanding foam in the boot lid frame to reinforce the skin and tried wheelbarrow inner tubes inflated in the frame. I settled for using 5mm thick rubber sheet trimmed to the boot lid shape. This reduced the distortion to a level that I decided was acceptable.
The bag I use on the rack is a BUSE waterproof bag with a 40ltr capacity. Because this obstructs the high level brake light, I have mounted a LED light on the underside of the rack.

What weight will the rack carry? Because of the boot lid distortion, I have had about 10kg so far; I put the heavier stuff in the boot!
Richard.
