Boot Organising/Organisers

  1. My model of MX-5 is: ND3
  2. I’m based near: East Yorkshire
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Boot organisers

Hello all!

I’m looking for a way to better store my car related stuff (which I like to keep in my boot). I’ve seen some products on mx5parts in relation to a “Boot / Trunk Liner” and “Boot Storage Tray & Board”. Does anybody have any experiences with these items? or is there something else that’s better recommended?

If it’s just the compressor and the tyre sealant, they can fit in the little storage area behind the seats.

Depends what you are storing and if you need to remove it to make more room for luggage if you use the car for trips away. Personally, I would visit Dunelm or a similar store. They stock a variety of plastic storage boxes with lids some of which should do the job. You might need to try a few different sized ones in the boot before deciding which suits your requirements. They are not expensive, the Wham boxes are good and made in the UK. They incorporate moulded handles so they are easy to lift in and out of the boot. They are also very light so won’t compromise the MX-5 gram strategy! Whereabouts are you in East Yorkshire? I’m near Brough.

Nah, I have lots of “tat” that I like to keep in the boot. Spare shoes, high vis vests among many other things. Currently fills a tesco bag lol

Didn’t think of this! will see if I can find anything

Hull at the moment, though I’m moving “soon”

Don’t keep hi vis vests in the boot, you will have to get out of the car first without them in an emergency which defeats the object. Keep them handy in the cabin, behind or under the seats!

This is something I intend to do, they’re just there now as I’m waiting for a nice dry and light day to sort out everything out (organise everything I’ve dumped in the boot). Unfortunately by the time work finishes it’s either dark or raining :sob:

Though the weather is starting to get better finally!

I’ve got jack, jump leads, pump, emergency tools, fuses etc in a small roll-along suitcase that fits in the cutout of the boot. May strap it upright against the bulkhead as it’s quite heavy, normally sits over the back axle in other cars but can’t say I notice it’s there in the Mazda. I’ve also taken the plastic box out as it’s a waste of space.

That fits rather well, I’ve just been to measure that “hole” area so going to look for something to fit it.

For anyone interested, I measured (in the dark): ~53 x 37.5 x 10cm

I’ve got the RF box in mine on the back wall of the boot (keeps my air compressor, some heat jackets and a fire extinguisher) but also ordered one of these which should turn up tomorrow or Thursday.

Pretty close to what I’m using

That looks cool, where did you get it?

Dave Butcher 3D prints them, he’s in our MX-5 MK4 ND owners UK :united_kingdom: group.

Ahh, I don’t have FB unfortunately

I can ask him for an e-mail address or pass an e-mail address onto him if you want.
