Bose stereo turning off ? Mk3 55 plate

Hi , my wife’s mk3 launch edition , has the Bose sound system but it keeps turning it self off after 30 secs or so , it turns off completely putting the clock back to 1200 and losing any pre set stations , has anyone had a similar problem or know what the problem is ?  Thx

I’ve not experiences that, but it sounds like a loose connection to the unit, you can remove the glove box by un-hooking the opener damper cord on the left side of the glove box then lower the glove box down so the hinges come away from the dash board.

you can then just about get your hands in to the rear of the head unit and push the connectors into the head unit.

might not be this but it’s the easiest thing to try.

Thx I will try that tomorrow , really weird it was ok for an hour today then started turning off Thx

I had a similar problem with my NC, took it back to dealer (just shy of 3 y/o), it turned out to be a loose connection. Never gave me a problem after that.

Just took it to mazda dealer they have diagnosed the head unit is faulty , getting power but keeps shutting it self down losing everything , 497 + vat for new unit , think I need to look after market , has anyone done this and how does it fit as front trim odd shape. Not double din ???

There is a surround plate you can get so a double din replacement will not look odd.

Someone on here will likely have a direct replacememt for the one you’re taking out for not much money. It is an opportunity to upgrade the functionality for not silly money though.

If you are handy with a small temperature controlled soldering iron it is easy to fix the most common problem with many car audio systems of all makes, which is that the items around the edge of the circuit board and fixed to the box are working loose in the soldering; such as the connectors, things on heat-sinks, switches etc.  I’ve repaired several radio systems for friends where it was simply the soldering failing. Inspection with a magnifying glass shows the little hairline cracks.

The important thing is that the security system has not been compromised by too many attempts to re-enter the code, then it needs specialised knowledge and equipment to hack it back into life and might cost as much as a new radio.

But then a nice new radio with better features is always worth while.

Same problem with my 2007 NC. Had the unit out today for the fourth time. Checked the power at the plug, thats ok, unplug then plug back in and it all works. It even retained the pre-set station the first three times. Switch on and off at the ignition, still ok. Leave it a few hours, doesen’t work. Radio sometimes comes on and off when driving but not in time with bumps in the road. I will have to try Richards fix next. I don’t want to have the expense of replacing it with a nice new Double Din unit as the car is likely to be sold around July August.
