I read that the front and rear bleed nipples are a different size on my car. Would anyone know the diameter and thread pitch? (front and rear) I have a lot of different ones and probably have the required sizes, with the diameter and pitch it would save on buying spares. All information gratefully received.

According to the Speedbleeder site.
http://www.speedbleeder.com/automobile_applications.htm#Mazda
Front M8 by 1mm pitch.
Rear M7 by 1mm pitch.
According to both Auotlink and MX5parts, the Mk1 through Mk2.5 including the big brake Mk2.5 use the same sizes.
M7 x 1 are a standard size. M8 x 1mm is non standard. M8 x 1.25mm is a standard size.

Thankyou very much for your reply Drumtochty. I have M7 x 1 but not M8 x 1, in fact on searching through my stock I find I have less than I thought as quite a lot are imperial sizes which tells you how long I have had them! On searching, Autolink sell them at £6.35 + VAT each! Does anyone know a scource at a reasonable price? I have found some at £2.40 but they are for motorcycles, so not sure about the length and sealing taper, If anyone has more information I would be very grateful.

M8 x 1 brake bleed nipples. £1.55 each from Brakes International, Rochdale.

Erm seems I have a problem. Whilst servicing the MX5 last weekend I decided to change the brake fluid. One of the front nipples took a lot of TLC to undo so I decided to replace all 4. abcks no problem M7x1 but the fronts were about 2 or 3mm longer than M8x1 I bought. My SVT has the big brakes and I read in several places the big brakes are the same bleed nipples M7x1 rear (easy) M8x1 front (unusual).
Didn’t get a chance to take a picture as brake fluid leaking out everywhere!
Any ideas… Whats a bit longer than a M8x1?
Jez
The M8x1 bleed nipples I bought from Brakes International were 33mm. overall length, the thread length was 14mm.

Thanks Geoff, I’ll give them a ring as the ones they sent me are only 28.5mm. No wonder I had brake fluid leaking everywhere.
It would seem not all nipples are the same length. Top is genuine Mazda M8x1.0, Underneath is Brakes international M8x1.0 28.5mm long but too short below the thread the create a seal.

oh yeh first try at posting a pic too!
Interesting, The Mazda screw has 10 threads, the brakes international 9 threads. The ones brakes international sent to me have 11 threads. I must have been lucky and yours are from a different batch or a different supplier.
