Hi - my brake dust covers are disintegrating and need replacement. How difficult is this going to be? I’m expecting the bolts securing the covers to be the main problem.
Dave
Got this job on the to do list for my NC. Dust shields on back order with mx5parts, due anytime now.
Never done it myself but it seems a pig to remove the hubs, need some sort of puller or home made device. Remove the sensor from the rear first (one bolt) then the four securing bolts. Then it’s parting of the hub time.
I take it you want the fronts replacing.
I’ll probably try the 2nd device down shown in these two clips here…
Hi Mick,
Many thanks for the reply and the U Tube videos, really useful.
Cheers,
Dave
I’m in two minds whether to fit 2 new hubs whilst doing this job, @£66 each (aftermarket parts) after knocking the others around taking them off, thinking?
Hi Mick,
New hubs, I was thinking that as well, the cost is mounting up, might be worth it though. After all that effort. I guess a lot depends on how many miles the car has done and whether there’s any signs of movement in the bearings? I don’t do a lot of miles, maybe 2 or 3k/yr. I’ll keep an open mind.
Dave
Mick, thanks to the power of t’internet, I’ve not heard great things about aftermarket hubs …
I know they’re a costly number OEM but I also guess it’s about how many miles/how you use the car also…
Cheers
