Brake Master Cylinder Mk-1

Hello,

Having trouble identifying the car exactly to get the proper Brake master cylinder.

It’s MX-5 1992 1.6 Petrol Automatic Eunos import.

The thing is I don’t know for certain if it’s ;

  • 1598ccm 115HP 85KW (Petrol)

or

  • 1598ccm 117HP 86KW (Petrol)

How do I find out?

Plus has anyone fitted an aftermarket one at all?

it’s £340.00 odd through main dealership

or

£288.00 from mX-5 parts.

Obviously don’t want to skip quality on an important safety feature!

But looking at options thanks!!!

Your engine is neither. All autos were 105hp. But it makes no difference on the part needed.

The MX5 parts master cylinder is described as a genuine Mazda part.

Loads here from £17…

Master cylinder etc

Thanks for your help!

Well for some reason I cannot choose 105HP version on eBay.

What I can choose is either

115HP 85KW

or

117HP 86KW

both give different results on the part compatibility.

I’ve attached some screen shots.

Thanks!

Although I don’t think we’re entertaining the idea of used ones…
It’ll be an old part as well and if functioning how long for?

For the work carried out to install we’d prefer new really.
Difficult to find aftermarket ones too.

Once I know the exact spec of the car (see above) then I can move forward…
Anaaand eventually brake and stop!

By the looks of it the mk1 used the same master cylinder for all models unless they had abs. I’d give mx5 parts or your local Mazda dealer they will be able to confirm or give you the original part number for comparison. There may even be a number cast into your existing part

Thanks.
Mazda UK have to put a request over to Japan with the VIN number as they haven’t got the database there. Really strange. Oh well. The person who deals with that is off work til June and Japan end are ‘shut’ basically. Ah well.

Really? Mazda UK have access to the worldwide EPC. Dealers pay extra to get access to it. They no longer have to ask someone in Japan.

Japanese part lists, in Japanese. Run it through Google Translate
