Brake Pads for ND

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2019 ND RF 2.0
  2. I’m based near: Liverpool
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Brake Pads

Hi everyone,

I am going to be changing out the discs and pads on my car in the next couple of weeks.
I’ve decided to go with EBC standard discs, but I am still unsure of what pads to go for.

I’ve narrowed it down to EBC Yellowstuff or Roddisons pads. I don’t track the car and it is used a daily driver along with some spirited weekend B road driving.

Which of these pads would be better suited to my needs? Has anyone had any experience using either of these?
Any other recommendations also welcome!

I use APEC pads and discs from the local motor factor. Perfectly adequate for normal driving. I am light on my brakes apart from approaching A road roundabouts where I am a late braker

Despite rigorously bedding them in, my Roddison’s pads squeal horribly, so despite the fact they work very well, I can’t recommend them for the road. Not sure what I’ll go for next either, but unless my next track day clears the squeal, they’re coming out.

The Mazda MX-5 brakes have done 34,000 so far and still not ready for replacement, so it will be the same again

The ‘ordinary’ cars get Pagid / Textar / TRW / Bosch, something with a recognisable name. General use pads for general use, with a reliable brand attached.

As above, id leave the EBC stuff alone personally.

I put plain but anti rust coated discs (borg and beck I think) and I went to EBC ultimax pads all around (about £137 for all discs and pads last year). I have been very happy with this set up for spirited driving and no track days.
I once had 2 MR2s at the same time, one had ultimax pads on and the other yellowstuff. The only difference I remember was to my wallet!
These are light cars and work fine with this basic set up, certainly for me as I try not to brake much. I wouldnt rush to spend a lot more unless you find a problem for you.
(If you are going for EBC, compare the club discount for direct purchases to the ebay deals that often come up for the best price).

Damn I have a new set of these ready to go on,

I think it’s the luck of the draw. Lots of people swear by them and don’t have any issues with noise. Fingers crossed you’ll be one of them.

They are if you’re referring to the ProRace version and willing to put up with the amount of dust they produce. Also, they barely work from stone cold but with some heat, they’re fantastic.

Think they do 2 different types? Pro Track which are a road/track pad which I have found (all be it on a different make of car) to be just fine for the road. They warm up quickly and are not too bad for dust. Yes the Pro race versions though are best left for the track (Though I have used them for quite a few miles on the road) they are MEGA on track though!
