Brilliant Black mk1 Eunos

Hey guys, picked up my first MX5 on 6th Jan 09 and my feet haven’t touched the ground yet. Its a 1993 mk1 that was first imported in 1998 and has done a fair few miles. Looks like shes had a respray too. All in all though it was a thrifty introduction to the legend that is the MX5 and so far has been an exceptionally fun car to drive!

Going out for a proper blast around some twisty country roads tomorrow so will get some decent action shots, in the meantime I really hope it warms up soon because I’m sick of 1st gear being so grumpy when the cars cold!

Looks great. I like the spoiler.

Looks geat… very clean example have fun tomorrow.

Looks good - black would always be my first choice of colour (that’s why my car is red [:^)])

I’ve never seen a spoiler like that before. Looks good though - I assume the entire thing is attached to the boot (rather than split in to 3 pieces for the wings)

Yeah my previous car was red, it suffered from horrific sun blushing on particular panels making the “flash red” turn ‘dusky pink’ argh!
You’re right about the spoiler, it seems to be an aftermarket one-piece that is attached to the boot lid with screws and leaves a few mills clearance between both rear wings.

What a stunner, hope you have fun, be careful blasting it though if your car is anything like mine it does like to drift round corners and roads being as they are… but have fun nonetheless [:D]

Very nice indeed !

I love to drift on the corners, just mind the kerbs and oncoming traffic. mx5’s are very controllable and its easy to flick the back end and bring it back safely just be careful of what’s around you…

My local supemarket car park is currently my favourite ‘safe’ playground for practice [:D]

Sounds like you might need new boots on the gearstick and some oil in the turret. All do-able on the tech day if you get the bits
Boot1
Boot2
Nylon cup

Looks great … think you’ve picked up a little cracker.
You’ve got the best colour too. That fantastic feeling you’re getting at the moment will not end.
I’ve had mine over 5 years and I still drive the long way home all the time just to drive it more.

Do you have any plans ?

Major thanks for info and links Halli, I’ll pick up the parts and follow the brilliant instructions on Miata.net to get rid of grumpy 1st. Once the car is warm the gears are a joy to use, love the notchiness!
I also want to proffer thanks to all you forum users for the kind comments and useful tips on driving the 5. This afternoon I went out for an hour long drive with the top down. The exhilirating feeling is like nothing else I’ve felt in a car, its just unadultarated fun! The sound of the road, the smells and overall awareness you have with the hood down is just unparallelled. Its like the best bits of driving a car and the best bits of riding a motorbike - your not totally caged up but not as vulnerable as a biker.
The steering feels wonderfully taut, its accelerates smoothly (its a 1.6 btw) and doesnt seem to suffer from any 65mph shimmy. Its just a total blast to drive!
All my family, friends and colleages think its wonderful. Most have never seen an MX5 before up close before so I’ve made them all sit in it and give it a gentle rev and they all come away smiling and enquiring about costs as they’re interested in the idea of joining the Mazda family! No other car I’ve owned has endeared itself to people quite like the 5 has. We’re all very lucky drivers and I feel sorry for the poor sods stuck in massive saloons who will never get to experience this kind of thrill.

As for near-future plans, its all about maintenance I’m afraid Ady. Want to change all the consumables, all the different types of oil, get cam belt and water pump done, destroy and repaint the few rust patches that are dotted about, make sure drain holes are totally unblocked and - with the help of the Tyne-Tees drivers - learn how to de-tango the front indicators!
Roll on the warmer weather so we can all get outside with our tops off

Really happy you’re enjoying it as much as we all do - had a parcel to pick up from the post office today, so off I went (top down of course) the post office is… ooh a 7 minute drive away… 45 minutes later I got home!
It’s such good fun, absolutely, totally smitten with it [:D]

Easy. Pop the lamps in the oven (low heat) for 15 mins until the glue is soft, prize apart carefully, unscrew the orange lens, clean all of the inside parts of the lamp for good measure, back in the oven to re-soften the glue and pop it back together. Use silvered indicator bulbs and Bob’s your Monkhouse.

Why? I was out topless today
