Brodit dash mount for Mk3.5 - reviews please

I’m trying to find a mount for my iphone for our Italian trip in 10 days time.

Round 1 - Having spent a couple of hours on the computer last night I’d narrowed it down to a magnetic jobbie fixing it to the air vent, but having received it today I found it doesn’t like the eyeball vents at all. So I passed it onto my wife for the CRV and now looking for an alternative.

Round 2 - The hideously expensive BRODIT set-up! My only concern (other than the price) is just how far it intrudes into the passengers space… I won’t be my wife’s favourite person if she finds herself jamming her leg against it for hours each day.

So, before I splash out on the Brodit, who’s got one and what do you reckon… Will it be a problem?

If you don’t use you CD, you could use something like THIS

I have got one of these CD slot mounts (not this particular one but virtually identical) and find it fine. Just wanted to say that mine (and I assume all the others) do not prevent you from using the CD player which still plays as normal. Obviously you have to pull the mount out to insert the disc then just replace it.

This is fine for us BUT beware of catching buttons/switches on the mount and turning the phone off!

Hope your trip goes well

Thanks for your suggestion on the CD mount, I had a read through the reviews before discounting it from the final mix because users have reported it being upset by bumpy roads. Unfortunately Italy has more than its fair share of crap road surfaces, even more than the UK (yes honestly).

Having added some pretty useless genuine Mazda mudflaps to the car at nearly £200 for a full set I’m rather inured to the cost of the Brodit, putting it down to a one-off expense… but I do need to know about its intrusion into Madams leg space, four weeks of ear ache would not be a pleasant experience!

I have a clip on version I used on my 3.5 exactly what you need fits over center consol on drivers side no screws Necessary  yours for £20 + postage if your interested. Email me and I’ll send you pics to nelsontve@me.com

Why not just leave it in the glove box?

Did a Brodit mix on mine, bought the Brodit car fixing and then stick a magnetic fixing to the flat panel of the Brodit. Only £15 from MX5 parts for the Brodit bit and couple quid for stick on / magnetic to attach phone. Much cheaper. Yes, does intrude slightly for passenger, depends if they twist their legs toward the driver. With good magnetic fixing holds nice and secure. Lower viewing for satnav but discrete and no taking on and off. Really pleased with this alternative

Hi Steve

This is what i use on my 3.5 from Halfords with the MX5OC discount it cost £13.50, attach it to the right hand lower corner of the windscreen, i have a Samsung S8 with a holder and no issues.

I remove it and put it in the glovebox when not needed as opposed to leaving on the screen as the pad dries out in the sunlight and looses it’s adhesion.

We had the Brodit dash clip which was in use in our NC1 but don’t use it in the NC3 as the fitting is different.

It is a slightly different design but I can report is that it was not too obtrusive and my wife didn’t have much of an issue with it.

Thanks… I did try to send you an email but it was returned as ‘undeliverable’, could you give another email address pls?

Because I use it as an alternative sat-nav, so it would be helpful to be able to glance at it. Sometimes the Tomtom has had a wobbly with some of the foreign addresses and so I have the Google maps to fall back on with the phone.

 Hi Steve

I thinks we have had emails before about this kit. sorry ref the email address it should have read NELSONTVH@ME.COM

I tried the Brodit route several years ago. Not only is it stupidly expensive, but if you change the phone, it’s useless and needs replacing at serious cost. The Brodit mix mentioned above sounds a good alternative if you need the Brodit mount, because you have no space on the dash. My own prefered method is a magnetic mount attached to the dash using a clear sillicon. It gives a much better fix than the double sided tape used by the manufacturers, and removes without damage when the time comes. I drive over old cobbled streets in Wapping regularly, and it’s never fallen off the dash, but I have lost a few fillings from my teeth. I do still have 4 holes in the dash from a previous Brodit fitting, and wish I’d never heard of them.

+1 for a CD slot mount. Admittedly it does jangle about a bit on very big bumps but hey, so does the whole car and its occupants!

It’s in a perfect place for viewing satnav with a good clear view of the sky for GPS fix, and won’t annoy your OH!

I replied to Steve by email as I’d just put the Brodit kit in my 2011 NC the night before but thought I should perhaps post the same info here in case it might be useful to anyone looking in the future?

I used a Brodit Proclip #634416 which attaches to the passenger side of the transmission tunnel and paired it with a Brodit 521165 mount for my iPhone 4S (so not the biggest phone in the world). You can see from the pictures that it does intrude a little into the passenger space (although so far my wife doesn’t seem bothered by it, perhaps because I fitted it before she had her first passenger ride in the car so didn’t know any different?). I have also noticed it vibrates slightly in use (which my Brodit set up in my Yeti doesn’t), but not enough to make it a deal breaker.
