Broken key stuck in the ignition barrel

Hi

My car key has broken in half inside the ignition barrel. Does anyone know how to get it fixed and garage/locksmith that can help in the london area?

No direct help but the same thing happened to me in my Mk1 around 7 years ago. Local specialist in the Lincoln area working as ‘The Car Key Man’ removed the cowling, took the security bolts from the lock, stripped the lock and removed the key. He then cut a replacement key and programmed it to the immobiliser.

Cost me around £100 but that was 7 years ago. However knowing London prices it might be worth shopping around further afield.

Luckily this has never happened to me but anything like this I always try Youtube and if you look there are several videos about this same problem.Worth a try and good luck !

London is a big area so I think you need to be more specific with your location!

I would remove the ignition, make sure the key position is ‘lock’ and bash it hard onto rubber or similar to try and shock the key remains out.

These are built with metal dowels that go in but cannot be taken out without destroying the ignition, therefore any idea of dismantling to remove is probably a non starter(excuse pun).

May be a daft idea (I get loads)but how about a squirt of wd40 and a strong magnet??

‘If’ you can get the key out and its not too badly mangled and not got a transponder chip in it then fit the two parts together and try send a hi-res photo to http://www.ebaystores.co.uk/carkeyrepairservice - they use the photo to make a key or keys.

I have used them twice and each time the keys arrived and fitted perfectly with a quick turnaround.

Thank you for the response all. I have got hold of a locksmith that can do it, hopefully he will be there saviour

Info here, although it seems you may have a saviour on hand!
