Buckled rim

I buckled a rim…:expressionless: I have it booked to be straightend Tuesday. I was just wondering if anyone knows if it will be alright for future use or would I be best off sourcing a new rim? I do a fair bit of milage and definitely dont want to be running on a rim that isnt 100%.

My thoughts exactly, the tyre place said it would be fine but I wasnt filled with confidence. I was looking for a different set anyway but i wanted to put these back on my mk2 golf looks like ill have to wait to have that back looking correct :joy:

Replace the wheel Not worth the chance that a repair will be OK.

I’d replace both the rim and the tyre.

If done properly, it will be fine. I straighten loads of rims. I drive cars everyday that have had straightened rims. My wife drove an MX-5 for years that had a welded and straightened rim. It was fi E and still is.
You have bent the original “super strong” rim, the perception that a correctly straightened rim will be more prone to damage is self defeating.

I was/am just a little concerned that it will be a weak spot, hearing from someone who has used straightend rims has eased my worries but I think I will still keep an eye out for another rim and use the straightend one as a full size spare for my project car.

And how will you know the replacement has not been straightened?

As long as its done by someone who knows what they’re doing it’ll be fine. Look up Ian Jemison of York and see what he does.
It’s up to you to work out whether it’s worth the cost of repair V buying another.

Thats a good point, all the replacemnts will be from the 80s/90s, im pretty sure they stopped getting made in the mid 90s so the chances of them being in perfect condition is slim

The place thats doing the repair is a pretty solid place in my local area and is going to be affordable, the rims will be going back on my project car after winter and ill be getting a new set for my roadster come new year anyway
