I wasn’t sure where to post so, mods, please move if necessary
I’m looking to buy a mk3 MX5 and in my search came across one with bugs in the tail light. These are 3 small (5mm approx in size) dead bugs. Has anyone else found bugs in their external car lights? Is there any possible way to remove them? I presume this is a contained unit that cannot be opened, but thought i would ask on here before considering the fact that the car will require a replacement tail light unit.
Hi, it’s not sealed, there are 3 bulbholders that can be removed from inside the car. Then maybe use a 10mm plastic pipe taped to the end of a vacuum cleaner nozzle to suck them out, or remove the light unit and tip them out.
Hi Rich… thanks for your fast response :) Do you know how straight forward it is to remove the bulb holders. I know that with my MR2, changing the headlight bulb was a mission to say the least as it is awkward to reach the bulbholder.
To get full access to the rear lights the plastic boot lining comes out in 4 panels that just have a few push fittings holding it in place so its pretty easy
Thank you This is helpful as i wouldn’t even consider purchasing the car if it was a problem that couldn’t be easily solved. I think the 3 back seat drivers in the tail light would get on my nerves!!
I have a dead bug in my taillamp too, been there since I bought the car, never really thought about removing it as you have to look pretty hard to see it . Maybe I should be a bit more fastidious and remove it!
Haha… a few great “dad” jokes here The car with the bugs is actually still for sale… the garage has only just reduced the price to that of what i offered them, after ringing me each week to see if i was still searching and then still refusing to come down in price. This have been happening for over a month now (now there’s a joke!!) …it’s a shame they didn’t do it sooner, as i’d be driving it by now… bugs in the back or not!! I’m still searching… however, i have moved on from the idea of this particular 5
