Welcome to the UK! I pray that the war will be over soon.

My teacher; Igor Markevitch, was also from Kyiv.

Oh wow, thanks a lot for all the support here. Sorry is I ask a silly question  I want to buy a cheap MX5 but do I need to pass mot check as well? I am not sure if it applies for all cars purchased in the UK or in general? There is a website carcheck123 where I can do that. Is it relevant for my case? Again sorry for a dump question

All cars over 3 years old have to go through an MoT (named after the Ministry of Transport, which no longer exists) test every year. This costs about ÂŁ50, and a wide variety of (mostly safety related) items are tested.

Even with a valid MoT certificate, it is illegal to drive a car in an “unroadworthy” condition - the MoT test is just a snapshot, but a car with, for example, a bald tyre or non-working brake lights might be stopped by the police.

David.
Old cheap MX5s?
Rust
Rust
Rust
Imagine a Lada Riva with it’s paint stripped and left in a Siberian salt mine for 10 years.
The oily bits last for ever, the big bit you sit in dissolve like an Aspirin in hot water IF…if…neglected so mind how you go and take a magnet and leave the rose tinted glasses at home. And take someone who “knows”.
Trust NOBODY flogging a cheap 5. Nobody.
And welcome to the UK. Big huge hugs, We are really thriving here. And then I awoke.
Top 6 economic miracle country dontcha know.

Alongside your MOT for vehicles 3 years and older, if you are thinking of buying an older model and are planning on regularly driving through London, Bath, Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Greater Manchester (under review), Portsmouth, Sheffield and or Tyneside - Newcastle and Gateshead you will need to make sure your vehicle has been registered by Mazda as meeting certain emissions standards, or is Ultra Low Emission, ULEZ, compliant.

You can check the registration of any vehicle for ULEZ compliance here :- Drive in a clean air zone - GOV.UK

Note London also has a congestion charge :- Congestion Charge (Official) - Transport for London.

I put the registration number of my old 1990 1.6 Eunos into the Government website to see what effect it would have had on me.

Looking at the list reminds me London has a seperate page on which to check your registration for compliance ;- Check your Vehicle

Welcome to the UK and hope you find a great MX-5 to explore in.
As for MOT information, you can check MOT history for free on the Gov.UK website, you just need the registration number. Do not be put off by a test fai, because it may then immediately pass because the work has been done helps understand how a previous owner has been able to look after the car. It also lists “advisories”, things which are highlighted but are not bad enough for the car to fail the test.
