    Dear All,
Can anyone recommend a cabin brace that connects the two seat belt towers?

Simon

I know the brace you refer to Simon, my Mk1 has it of course, but not our 2002 version of your car. For what it’s worth…they were lip service to Ncap side impact requirements of the day, but do little, next to nowt, to torsionally stiffen anything, and in any case our Mk2 shells are far stiffer than Mk1s. Which is maybe why…I cannot recall seeing our Mk2/Mk2.5 last fitted with one.

Mk2s have gussets welded to the front and rear of the transmission shell.

The brace and door bars were added in 1994 to pass US Federal requirements.

You can fit a Style bar that will do more or less the same job. Racing Beat bars are nicely made, and very stout, if a bit expensive. The Style bars that are just a single piece of bent tubing will act like a spring.
