I have no power in my garage but to combat parasitic drain, I have a solar panel trickle charging system using SAE cabling system and plugs to connect and disconnect to battery. However, tired of having to lift the bonnet every time to connect so would like to cable so that connection from solar side is in cockpit. Can’t figure out a route from bay to cockpit, and connector is 8mm wide. Any suggestions please? Or do I cut cable between connectors and feed through small grommet where bonnet release cable enters cockpit perhaps and then reconnect?
If your car has OBDII socket then there is a pair of pins with permanent battery connection, via the 15A Room fuse. However if you pop that fuse not much will work!
I tried this with my Mazda3 during lockdown, but alas a panel inside the car was next to useless here in UK with short winter day and then too much pollen etc on the screen at this time of year, all conspiring to defeat the three different panels.
See this thread for lots on the topic.
Thanks Richard
I already have an OBD Bluetooth sender in that socket connecting to an app on my phone giving me additional dials, so that would be a pain to keep swapping out.
Those things are so cheap you could modify one with a short dangly socket for the panel lead, or glue the socket on the cover of the BT lump.
The OBD sockets are a pain to plug and unplug compared with the charger lead plugs.
I assume your always-live BT sender is securely paired Only to your phone to prevent a tealeaf walking up to your locked, parked car and gaining access etc
You don’t say which model you have. I was potentially looking for a route from the engine bay to the boot for my NC1. There’s a grommet on the drivers side near the pedals.
NC1
Do you mean the grommit where the bonnet release cable passes through the firewall? Npwhere near big enough I’m afraid as plug on end of cable is 15mm.
I’m not sure, it possibly was that. Will the pins not come out of the plug then refit when routed.
If the plug won’t go through the grommet, then maybe consider splitting it, then superglue it back together (grommet)
