Cadwell Park March 28th (Thursday)

Hi All!

Long time no post. Just booked with Javelin. A full day of Cadwell for £99… Its an amzaing place (and price) for those who have not been. Couldn’t recommend it enough!

I have been there with Mk1 Fiesta’s, Mk3 Orion, Mk2 MR2 and of course my Mk1 Mx5. The Mx5 was the 1st car i have spun.

The last outing was cut rather short. So i have learnt the following and is my advice for anyone with a Mx5 who wants to trackday or enjoy the wonders of our B-Roads.

  1. If your exhaust is making a metalic cracking noise the Tail Pipe will fall off and melt your bumper (Tested:)

  2. If you havent looked at the battery, now is the time. If it isnt secure (or the metal strap&terminals not protected) you will have a Chernobyl style melt down and small fire (Tested:)

  3. If you have done any work removing the rocker cover, check and check again that the bolts are Torqued Up, or they will shake loose (Tested:)

And finally, although this hasn’t happened to me but i have seen the damage caused. Check your Wheel Nuts are Torqued… You can imagine the mess if they are not!

Well i hope to see you there. If its something you’ve been considering but are not sure: the venue is excellent, staff are great and there is fuel on site and under 5miles away. Just take it easy and enjoy trackday bliss and for £99 its a bargin to be had!

It is a bargain and also Blyton on the 3rd of March for £99 .  Were lucky here in Lincolnshire to have to 2 great circuits and lots of empty ‘B’ roads.

A few of us here in ‘Bomber County’ to quote Ross, are getting ready a Squadron of 5’s to fly around the tarmac very soon Salute.

Well Squadron Leader Nedski your just teasing me now because I will be missing both of those datesCry have a good time and report back with video evidence.

cheers Ross

Don’t worry Ross were not ready yet, your not missing out on thrashing us.

Hope those going on the 28th have a great time as I too am jealous Cry

Cheers Neil

…booked it (although it was £129 when we got there)…last 2 spaces for my car (White, Mk1 MX-5 1800) and my brother’s (E36 328i track car)…

We did Cadwell in the 328 last year, great circuit…pleased it was in the BMW and not the 5 last time as the time attack boys were doing shake down laps and it was a national mitubishi EVO meet…

now it’s the 5’s turn to give it a go too…

Its a journey for us (live in St Albans), but worth it…

See you there.

Cheers

James

i will be there with 3 mk1 race cars … Give me a shout if i can be of assistance . I’ve got 1 person for personal instruction booked for most of the day , They want to learn how to get air born over the mountain :) … but always got time for people if your struggling or looking for advice - or broken the car , i will have the race support van with me full of parts and tools should the worst happen

see you soon

brian

Brian,

Very kind of you to post, will pop over and say hello, lets hope for a good day.

Cheers

James

Well, 6 days to go and the weather is looking interesting! I am hoping that they have got it wrong again and it will be glorious sunshine

Anyway hope to see you all there!

Sign On / Noise testing from 7.30am onwards

Safty Briefing from 8.30am onwards.

Chaps...great day at Cadwell yesterday...me (white mk1 mx-5) and my brother Jon (black BMW e36 328 track car) had a great time...good mix of machinery out there but quite a lot of more normal cars which makes a change.  Brian, assume that was you I let through early in the day on the run into coppice, that mk1 race car really takes corners flat without a hint of roll..good to watch from close corners, for as long as I could hang on for (not long!)

There were lots of 5’s out, a dark green mk1, a red and a blue mk2’s…I think we more than held our own against similar opposition…

Sorry I didn’t come over and chat, I was on an5.30 curfew with the wife and it was 150 mile trip back to st Albans…

My mx-5 did me proud, 300 road miles, 100 track miles (I used a whole tank of fuel on track alone!)…not a single hick-up or complaint, brilliant little car…

Cadwell track is just fantastic, hope to see you all again there soon

Kind regards

James

it was a great day … i got a few sessions out in my car , sounds like it was me driving when you were behind lol , but mainly spent the day in the passenger seat …

All the mx5’s were looking sweet out there and hastling the bigger bhp stuff … my best moment was a blue race spec clio and myself giving a 600 bhp cossie a run for its money … Held us up on the twistys but we needed a tow rope down the straights  … I had a great few laps chasing a black bmw with yellow roll cage .

i will post some footage up when i get 5 mins

…the black BMW was my brother! it’s called ‘the black pearl’…it’s a great track car, but he gives it some terrible grief and it’s nearly done 150k miles so one day it’s going to go bang!  Would be great if you’ve got some footage of chasing him?

I thought in general the standard of driving and etiquette was good (apart from the golf that punted me off at coppice!)…people generally got out of the way when they relised they couldn’t keep up through the corners…

My best moment was chasing a maroon Clio 16v and watching him tripod around the corners for a few laps, before he finally grew tired of a white Mazda buzzing all over him and he pulled over…great fun!

here we go then . 3 videos for you … first 1 trying to keep up with the well driven bmw with shot tyres . spot the lap time (which i cant see until i look at data in the evening) … 2nd one . A few hot laps in the morning … 3rd one . saving my girlfriend from spinning

no timing is seen on the day … and this was a playday for me and my girlfriend for her birthday prezzie . She wanted to use my race car to make use opf the camera’s … and to use a race winning car

I was impressed by your girlfriends very smooth driving style ,steering wheel control looked very Jenson Button tell her well done .Trying to get my wife on track but may have left it too late we will see.

cheers Ross

Brian, thanks so much for posting the videos, my brother was chuffed to bits…still think he can take more speed through coppice, something to work on next time…I’m busy learning the correct gears for the various stages of the course from your inboard shots, is it my imagination or do you take the mountain in first?

Good morning all.

Well im glad it all worked out in the end! Thankfully the weather didnt let itself down and i dont think any of the MX5’s had any incidents (barrier wise).

I hope you all enjoyed yourselves as i did. See you next time

first bit of the mountain in 3rd then slam it in second and floor itWink
