Caliper piston rewind tool - handing

Apologies if this appears to be a daft question, but it is a genuine ask. I’m looking to purchase a brake rewind tool in order to ease back the front brake pistons  - have an ongoing sticky caliper issue. A Internet search brings options for right and left handed rewind tools.  Are both rewind tools required or can either a left or right handed tool be utilised to do the job?  Thanks Garry

Either could be used, but for the front calipers a simple G clamp would do the job. Have you seen the guide in the Downloads section?

Pistons in front calipers push back in – no winding tool needed.
Pistons in rear calipers wind in clockwise.

If you are lucky the rear pistons will wind in just by using a pair of pliers, I was lucky.

You can get a complete set for around £20.00 on eBay I bought a complete set and would not be without it now. Used on my sons cars and also great for motorbikes too.

If your going to use pliers or anything else that may damage the pistons I would suggest using a rag under the jaws.

Looking at the OP’s avatar, I assume he has an NB. The rears retract with an 4mm Allen key.

Yes rears only with allen key through the 14mm bolt at rear of caliper ( not the one holding the handbrake bracket 9 the inner one is just blank bolt and has allen key inside ).Fronts just push back with two screwdrivewrs or similar as levers or use winding back tool if you feel happier but DO NOT WIND BACK THE REARS.!!

Thanks all for the good advice. Garry
