- My model of MX-5 is: __2.0 2011
- I’m based near: __belfast
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ drag is it calipers or normal for rear wheel drive extra Resistance with drive shaft /LSD ? Recent come back to mx5s , notice a Resistance when car is sitting on a very slight incline , my front wheel drive cars will roll forward ever so slightly , mx5 not so , don’t know if it’s the dreaded Mazda caliper drag or is it it normal due to resistance of drive shaft / LSD for rear wheel drive cars ? Thanks
If it’s a binding brake it’s most likely a front brake given trouble on an NC. You really need to get it jacked up and check each wheel individually for tightness.
As Robbie says a closer inspection needed.
A simple test, is there more heat build up on the hub, higher than its opposite hub
Fronts will get hotter in use than the rears.
Don’t burn yourself testing:+1: or use a heat probe thingy.
First place to check is the lower passenger side front slider pin. Pop the caliper off and pump the pin in and out to see if it feels smooth or graunchy, or doesn’t move at all. If the inner brake pad is much more worn than the outer pad, this also suggests stuck slider(s).
Having said all that, cars with wider low profile tyres don’t roll as freely, especially if they’ve been sitting for a day or two. They quickly acquire a temporary flat spot.
