cam belt concerns

hi all,

i have been suffering from a loss of power since approximately the time i got a garage to change my cambelt.

is it possible they fitted it incorrectly? what would the symptoms be if that were the case and is there any way i can verify this without actually looking at the belt.

car idles fine at 850rpm.but fuel economy is pretty poor (280miles on full tank) and acceleration is not as i remember it.

i checked to see if i was getting binding brakes and although warmish the wheels werent hot to touch after a 30 mile run.

recently changed plugs and ht leads.its made no difference.

any thoughts appreciated.

 sorry…

Take the car back to the garage who did the cambelt, and get it sorted, sounds as if they have the timing a tooth out

so it would still run then, but poorly.

let us assume that the garage in question is the sort of establishment that might try to pull the wool.

what possibilites do i have for checking this out myself before confronting the garage with more concrete evidence than their sayso.

It will take them 2 minutes to whip out a timing light and check it is set to 12 degrees BTDC.

i have access to a timing light…what disparity would i be expecting to see if its a tooth out…?

Could they have disturbed the woodruff key? Check if you have the long or short nosed crank.
