Hi all - 1.8 NA, just about to get the cam cover powder coated. Do I need to remove the three baffle-type plates that are fitted to the inside with screws? The whole interior will be masked - but just thinking heat, and possible seals under those plates. Thanks! Steve
When I had my camcover powder coated I removed the 3 steel covers, there were no gaskets just sealant.
I used Loctite 5699 gasket sealant, anything similar would do the job.
Every time I’ve had a cam cover blasted and cleaned I have removed the plates and cleaned out the residue that gets trapped in there, those that have failed to do so have ended up with blocked oil galleries, resulting in a knackered engine once fitted.
Thanks, gents. Cover plates now removed - and cleaning point well noted, Ian! Cheers, Steve
