Cam Cover

I have had a spare Cam Cover professionally painted.

The process was completed after removing the plug lead guides.

How best to reattach the lead guides?

Will gasket silicone work?

Or is there a better method.

Thanks for your help.

Grant

If yours is a Mk1 or Mk2, there are two black plastic lead retaining clips, and they’re fixed to the cam cover with a single black self-tapping-type screw.  There should be two small threaded holes in the cam cover to accommodate them.  You sure the holes haven’t been masked, or filled with paint? - they’re fairly small.

Thanks for reply.

Its a MK1.

The holes are present (were correctly masked before painting).

Unfortunately i dont have the actual screws.

Perhaps i can reuse the screws off the existing guides?

Yes.

Thank you.

I should have looked at the existing cam cover first and I would have probably been able to answer my own questions.

However, I am very grateful for your guidance which is very reassuring.

Has anyone got the torque settings for the cam cover bolts?

If so please let me know.

I am aware of the order of tightening but can’t find the torque setting.

Thanks Jeff.

Most helpful.

I am now part way through the cam cover replacement.

The old cover is off and all previous signs of sealant have been removed.

In preparing the new cover the internal plates were removed.

Can anyone please advise me if the internal plates need to be sealed prior to screwing in place?

Thank you.

Grant

Yes they are sealed with gasket sealant.

I tend to use Loctite 5699 but similar would be fine.
