Cam identification

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2007 ZSport NC 2.0l 6spd
  2. I’m based near: anglesey
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: identifying cams already installed

Records from previous owner shows the engine had a ‘partial rebuild’ about 6,000 miles ago and at that time was fitted with BBR 4-1 manifold, had a remap at autotronix invoiced as ‘Ecutek remap’… And a bunch of suspension and chassis mods, as you can expect.

I’m considering replacing the cams with something ‘fast road’-ish… But, before I jump at anything, is there any easy way to tell if the ‘partial rebuild’ included a cam swap? I Can pull the cam cover obviously, but would there be any visible markings to indicate stock or aftermarket cams???

Any advice appreciated

If it helps - my stock 2.0 2006 motor has the following id cast in to the cams.

Exhaust
L309
441

Inlet
L309
421

Great… Is that a stock cam (showing my ignorance).

I guess I’ll be lifting the cam cover soon then.

To my knowledge - yes - don’t think it has ever been apart ( until now )

Go to page 7 in this doc - it shows how to identify stock cams for the supercup.

Thanks… All very useful info!
