Guys,
I have searched around for a how-to guide for mk1 cambelt change but I can’t find one. Have I missed it?
The Haynes manual seems to explain it well but a guide written by an enthusiast is always better!
Thanks, Paul

Hi Paul, there is a good guide on this forum somewhere but in the meantime here’s one that looks ok.

recommend you change the water pump at the same time while all the bits are off.
good luck; it’s not as hard as it looks.
Go on to youtube and watch some videos there. Also use the words Miata in your search.
That gives you a better idea of what is involved rather than reading a how to.
The “how to” can then be used as a guide when you are doing the job and you can tick off items as you strip and then replace.
Remember to get a proper Mazda cam cover gasket.
Are you going to do the water pump when you do the belt change.
What sort of mileage has the car done and do you know if the belt has been changed before.
Thanks for the link to the how-to guide. I will check out YouTube as well of course. The aux belts look a bit cracked, so I’ll do those and the water pump. The car came with no history at all when I bought it, it has done 128,000 approx.
What is the CAS thing I’ve seen mentioned? The how-to guide mentions it but doesn’t say what it is. I have only just replaced the cam cover gasket, can I re-use it if I do the cambelt in the next few weeks? I don’t do a lot of mileage so it won’t be very old.
Thanks all for the advice and comments, this is a really great forum.
Paul
CAS = cam angle sensor
google it or look on the search section
I’ve got a few guides I downloaded and put into Word docs (timing belt/ water pump/ cas sensor etc).
If you still need them pm me and I’ll email them to you.
