Cambelts & Wobbly gearlever

Hello guys,

Just been to test drive an 2003 MX-5 1.8 Sport.

Splash green one in Canterbury.

The car was great to drive (my first MX5 drive). The car stuck

to the road nicely.

One thing I did notice was the gearlever wobbled a bit as I was driving along at 50-60mph.

Is this normal?

Also how much is a Cambelt change at a Mazda dealer as this car is due one

in 4,000miles time? (its on 54k at the moment)

Many thanks,

Rob

Just phoned a Mazda dealership and a cambelt for a Mk2.5 1.8 is £220-230 all in. Not too bad really. Just thought you guys might like to know.

Or you could use an independant such as http://www.freelancemazda.co.uk/eunos.htm and pay less than half that.

Did that really say £90 for a cambelt change? Funk me that is good and only 6miles away from my house!

Anyone used these guys before? If they are good I can see me being a regular as they are only a few miles away.

I’ve recommended Mark several times and have always had very positive feedback. A mate of mine who no longer posts on the forum[:^)] travels from the Notts area to have his car serviced by Mark.

As to the cost of the cambelt change. I know from personal experience, that a cambelt can be changed in well under an hour by a mechanic who really knows what he’s doing. Mine was done by a very good mate, in my driveway, on an Eastern region techday. He was also advising other people on a variety of tasks but the job was completed very smartly.

RE The Gear stick, by wobbly do you mean vibrating a bit?

It is normal for it to move, because their is no linkage to damp any vibration like there is in most cars. If however the stick is loose, that is not normal.

I think its was just vibrating a bit.
