Are you sure thats a 1993 car? It has early wheels, but late mudflaps, later steering wheel, later sun visors, later mirror and later indicator stalks. No chrome on the speedo either. Looks like a 1996 model car. In which case, I would have said the paint is Excellent Green 11Q on a VR Limited, which someone has fitted early wheels to.
Check the VIN; 1993 should be NA6C-xxx (probably in the 200,000’s) or NA8-1XXXXX. If so, its a respray, so who knows what colour it is. 1996 will be NA8CE-4XXXXXX, The VIN plate under the bonnet will ALWAYS have the paint code on it. The driver door sticker, with the model numbers, if present, will also ALWAYS have the paint code.
Thanks. The chassis number is NA6CE141XXX. ( last three numbers withheld) there is no paint code on the vin plate ans no sticker on the door area.
It does not appear to have had a colour change as I have checked in the boot and under the bonnet and there is no evidence of this…
Any more ideas?
Here is another one on an M
reg, definately a factory colour:
Would you mind PMing me your full VIN Buzzer? I’ll look up the details of the car for you.
[1] A chassis number of NA6CE141XXX indicates an April-May 1991 car. Check:
http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/321.aspx
The spreadsheet there pre-dates the Japan-Partner website. The Japan-Partner website is unreliable; it works for some (giving a production date) but not others. The spread sheet was compiled using registration data supplied by importers, such as Autolinkuk. It will only give an approximate age.
[2]The green in the photograph doesn’t really look like “Neo Green”, which although a metallic, looks like a solid colour. Yours certainly has a flake in it. Its not uncommon in Japan for repainted cars to be taken back to a shell.
[3] You say there is no paint code on the VIN plate. Are you sure the car has a Eunos VIN plate? This is the standard Eunos Roadster VIN plate:
On this car, the paint code is clearly visible’ as a raised PZ, denoting black. Neo Green, the only green to be used on 1990-1993 cars, was HU.
[4] Have you corroborated the VIN on this plate, with the stamped number on the firewall, behind the engine.
[5] A 1993 car should have a door jam sticker, though it can go missing, such as after a respray. It will look like this:
1990-1991 cars I think were missing this.
[6] All 1993 cars will have a rear subframe brace (bar running under the exhaust between the rear wishbones) and push-pull style power window switches. Early 1991 cars will not have these (have push-push power window switch). Your car appears to have a cockpit brace, denoting a 1.8, but this can be retrofitted to other cars.
[7] Is the engine a 1.8 or 1.6? 1.6; recessed camcover letters, 1.8; raised camcover letters. The car has 1989-93 1.6 factory wheels, so I am not automatically assuming what engine it has. The rear mud flap style indicates a 1.8, but the shorter style hasn’t been available for years, so possible for a 1.8 to be fitted with 1.8 arches. 1.6 Roadsters had the seatbelt stalk attached to the transmission tunnel.
[8] The interior is confusing/ Black leather seats. Neo Green cars were all V-Specials, except for 3 uber rare refreshed Roadsters (yes, 3 cars out of 30 refreshed cars were neo green with black cloth interiors). V-specials all had tan leather interiors. Ok, interiors can get swapped. But, your car has the 1996+ Momo wheel. This will not easily fit the earlier cars, because the steering column shroud is different, and the later steering wheel has an eccentric hub, leading to a very odd driving position in early cars (later cars have a differently angled steering column, thanks to steel spacers). Again, its not clear in your photo, but are the stalks straight or bent. Pre-1996 cars had straight stalks, later ones were bent. It is not easy to swap the stalks around; the wiring for the wipers is different (the wiper motor needs to be changed), and the clockspring needs changing. The other give aways for a 1996 car are: fuzzy, non-looped carpet, no chrome trim on the gauges, shorter seat squab. 1993-1995 1.8s had a short grab handle, but the 1996+ cars returned to the longer door grab handles. 1996+ cars also had an isolator switch to the right of the steering wheel for the power windows.
[9] All 1.6 V-Specials had manual mirrors. For the 1.8, the door skin was modified, allowing power mirrors to be fitted. All 1.8 V-Specs had power mirrors as standard. The 1.8 VR-Limited, which I referred to in a different shade of green, did not. The VR had very dark green seats, almost black, with a distinctive “Roadster” script in green.
Note the shorter seat squab.
[10] When you checked under the bonnet, did it have a collection of stickers?
thanks guys, comprehensive replies! I have tried to upload a few more pictures, but I am new to this and struggling with photobucket, I now seem to have deleted my original picture and replaced it with others , I have tried to edit my original post as the picture I posted no longer shows…
I will post some more pictures later. for now I am going to paint the sills with some black stone chip.
