Hi,
Hope this is the correct place to ask this - just wondering if anyone can recommend a good garage near Richmond? In need of a few small repairs, and probably a service too.
There’s a place called WTS Tyres near me (they don’t just do tyres) - anyone heard of them?
Thanks!
The only garage I can recommend, on the word of other members, is Cox & Buckles who are now based in Kingston, just off Surbiton Road 0208 944 7100.
Thanks for the tip - Kingston is not far from me, I’ll give them a call.
Also found a place called Auto Diagnostic Centre in Mortlake - this seems to have very good reviews around the web - not a Mazda specialist or anything, but presumably this isn’t really a problem for small repairs?
Just to add, I spoke to Cox and Buckles just now, they sound like they know mx5s well, and offered a good price on servicing - probably taking it in (or having it towed in that is!) next week. Thanks again for the advice.
Glad to hear that you have got it sorted - C&B are MX5 specialists so you should be in safe hands!
I’m a bit slow in my reply to this request and it looks like you are already sorted, but I always use Maypole motors in Surbiton. They are not a specialist MX5 garage, but they have never let me down and their prices are very competative.

Yep, I’ve already booked it in with Cox & Buckles (just waiting for mx5parts to deliver a thermostat housing) but thanks for the additional recommendation anyway. First time I’m getting it repaired/serviced, so felt safer going with an mx5 specialist. Anyway, will report back next week after the works been done - can’t wait to get the car back on the road!
Just realised I never updated on this - repairs all done (a while back now) and car now running great! Thanks very much for the recommendation, I would happily recommend Cox & Buckles to anyone else.
I’m also very glad I did take it to a specialist as is turned out there were more serious problems than I first thought - mainly, one of the cylinders was not working! Replaced exhaust valves, and the increase in power was noticeable, can’t believe I’d been driving it around since I bought it (several months) without realising this… There were also problems with the cooling system, replaced radiator, now that seems fine too. Replaced various other things at the same time, cam belt, water pump etc.
Will be taking it back at some point for new clutch and front brake pads, but for now just enjoying driving it again!
Hiya… Just out of interest, who did you deal with at C&B?.. Has Mark returned? or was it Alan?
Cheers
Win
It was Alan - didn’t see anyone else around when I was there.
After reading this post I gave Alan a call about swapping my steering wheel over to a Nardi one. Dandycars had made a mess of it the week before after the guy had forgotten to take off the central bolt, he then wondered why it wouldn’t come off!? Cox and buckles were great, Alan agreed to meet me on a saturday morning and did the job quickly and cheaply. Would recommend him to anyone and I’ll be back come service time.
have used Alan at cox and Buckle several times. always helpfull and not madley expensive, used to go to whites at bookham which was very expensive
