Every now and then the alarm on my NC has triggered for what seemed to be no apparent reason. Now I seem to have found a possible cause, or I might just be grasping at straws.
But… it seems every time the alarm goes off, my mobile phone has been left in the centre console. On no occasion (yet) has the alarm triggered when the phone has not been left in the car.
Thanks Ruberdub and MickAP, with apologies for not trying to search the forum beforehand. Given the depth of experience of the membership, I should have realised I would not have a unique problem.
So strange though that none of my other non-MX5 cars have had the same issue, but hopefully now solved.
Always thought Mazda should promote this as a positive virtue reminding owners not to leave mobile phones in their cars. A timely reminder to prevent (a) theft of phone and potential loss of its contents; (2) Damage to e.g. soft top, window glass or door locks from break-in.
Just out of curiosity, I tried putting my phone in my NC today to see whether my alarm would activate. Even got my wife to call it, but my alarm refused to go off. The alarm does work, as I can trigger it by turning the key to position 1 (but not, interestingly, by leaning into the car).
So I’m wondering whether (1) Mazda fixed it in later cars (mine is 2015) or (2) it doesn’t apply when the PRHT is open (I didn’t try it with the roof closed) or (3) it depends on the particular handset (mine is a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+) or (4) my microwave sensors are not working or (5) summat else…
Prob me MickAP, not sorted but lock car with key at moment and not gone off for 4-5 days. Pretty sure its going to be something like the bonnet micro switch.
I was out yesterday in my 2008 PRHT and nipped back in house for something, just blipped the key to lock it and then the alarm went off, unlocked and locked it again, three times! I had left my mobile in the centre console as it was for a minute or two. Glad it appears to be something as simple as that, cheers.
Same here - I routed my apple car play cable to the centre cubby so whenever I inevitably forget to pick it up the alarm goes off! Cant decide if its useful to tell me to get my phone, or a concern to alert people that there’s a phone in the car to be nicked…!
Interestingly it also happend on my nc1 when I had an android head unit installed with a 4g dongle plugged in - not in the centre cubby though, was in the glove box
I did this two days ago (should have known better) left the car for 5 mins whilst I wondered over to ASDA but didn’t want to queue. Car still in sight I walked back over to it and annoyingly someone’s alarm started sounding.
It was mine I’d left the phone hooked up to the head unit in the cubby.
Had this happen when using a samsung tablet for the torque app. As it has no phone connectivity it would appear it may be bluetooth or possibly searching for a wifi signal that causes the issue?
