Car cover and LHS (NS) door

Hi all

Looking at buying my first mx5 (it’s a MK2 in black)

I’m after a decent but not too expensive car cover and a passenger door in black(currently has a fairly sizeable dent)

Cheers

Thanks for your note, but that’s a MK3 rather than a mk2

sorry, i’m sure i read MK3.

My eyes must be going.

Saw this earlier and wasn’t going to say anything Keat:-)…after all I do the same on an almost daily basis.

Going to be hard to find a good MK2 door in black - have you considered approaching a repairer/dent technican? They can perform miracles and may work out better for you.

Not many black MK2s around and these panels do not travel well.

Car covers can be useful, particularly down here where the seagulls(flying rats) are in abundance but one of the benefits of external storage is airflow. Some horror stories with ‘fit car cover and forget’, so make sure this will work for you. MX5Parts sell good covers and the manufacturer describes them well.

Thanks for advice rhino.

Yeah I am still planning on using the car at least one a month but I’m going to park under a tree so it’s not only bird but also sap and leaves…

I’ll have a look round for covers and people’s experiences.

Cheers

I use one of these…

I’ve been though several covers in the past, and ballooning up in the wind was always a problem.

This time around, the ears of the wing mirrors, and the fact that the front of the cover is held in place under the wipers,

means that it’s quite secure. If the wind is up, or gusting towards the rear end, then the rear can balloon up and come adrift.

So, I keep an eye on the weather forecast, for significant changes. of wind direction, and park the car accordingly.

I’d actually, by inclination, just dispense with a cover completely, but the hood…, in winter…, in rain… you know.

I don’t like those chin-strap ones, they seem to be the worst for blowing about and the elastic loses its goodness quite quickly.

There are several threads on half covers, here are two, there are probably others…

The Moss ‘security cockpit cover’ (half cover) is IMO a bargain at £33.

Just don’t put the tabs over the boot seal, they will wick water into the boot.  Trap them under the corner of the boot lid outside the rubber seal.

Incidentally - I think it’s a couple of quid off for Black Friday.  MX5parts and ukcustomer covers also have a BF sale on

There are a few black ones breaking on Ebay at the moment.

May I be redeemed.

If you are still looking for a car cover, I have a Monsoon outdoor Mx5 cover I used it on my Mk1. It fits quite snugly, has pockets for the wing mirrors, and has straps to hold it on. Never had any problems with it bowing off. Let me know if you are interested. I am located in West London
