Washed the car specially yesterday in honour of her new cover, tried stretching it over the wing mirrors and failed! The cover seems to be an inch too short (too narrow) - with one elastic mirror pocket on one side the other won’t fit over the other mirror. Didn’t try folding the mirrors back but don’t really want to do this everytime I put the cover on, as the cover is meant to protect the top from my muddy cat clawing and sleeping on it!!
Anyone else had this issue with this cover? I will be contacting them about it - maybe my cover was manufactered slightly smaller than normal and just a swap to a new XS will sort it.
Another quick question - does anyone have any thoughts on wear and tear on the bodywork using the above sort of cover? Is it ok to use regularly (assuming it fits!!)
I have the same classicadditions XS half cover for my mk3 and find it is a little tight to stretch round the mirrors so have resorted to folding them inwards whenever I put the cover on but once on it fits snugly. The covers aren’t made to measure so I suppose the fit will be better on some cars than others and I wouldn’t want to go up a size as it would be too loose. For £40 (off their stand at the NEC classic car show) compared with £99 from mx5parts I’m not complaining.
Only had the cover a month so can’t comment on the effect on the body however I would imagine any risk would be from the elastic straps running over grit or similar rather than the cover itself which doesn’t really touch the paintwork. I have found it very effective in the recent cold snap keeping the windows frost and snow free and will continue to use it when the weather improves as I find seagull s**t a pain to clean off a mohair hood.
I had one for almst a year, had to fold in the mirror to get it on, but better than it being to loose, I regularly polish my car& nver found any marks from the cover except back marks after the cover got wet, but they wipe off easy. Its a good cover, I used it every day.
Thank you timc and Ali G - I was so dissappointed to find it didn’t just pop on! I will try folding mirrors in - I agree it is better to be snug than flap about - less movement the better for the paintwork.
I have a cheapy one I have been using since buying the car - really pleased whenever I have gone out to find nice big bird dropping on the cover right where the hood is … !!
