Car Decibels?

Does anyone know the dB numbers for the ND? I’ve got a track day to book in at Goodwood and the booking is based around the dB levels of the vehicle. They have 98dB slots or 105dB.

I’m hunting around the web but all i’m finding is discussions on how loud the car is with the roof down.

Do you know if those figures are static or drive-by? I’m imagining it’ll be static.

Usually that’s noise output of the exhaust at 4000 revs, measured from a set distance.

I seem to recall the OEM system being 89dB static. I’ll see if I can find the source.

“All cars will be noise tested at the start of their track day. The static noise limit is 98dB measured at 0.5m from the exhaust and three-quarters maximum revs. Whilst on track there is a 96dB drive-by limit. Cars that fail will not be allowed on the track, therefore we encourage drivers to book a complimentary noise test at the Motor Circuit prior to their track day if they are unsure.”

Appears to be a mix.

My car is RF with the 2.0L 181hp.

If it’s stock it should be fine. Mine has a full BBR exhaust and gets through.

Our cars are virtually silent on track, you will have no problems with noise. Chill and enjoy the day.

FWIW, the Mazda sport exhaust is shy of 90db last time tested, I run BBR super sport (loud one) back box now and that hits just below 100db at 4500 rpm.

Enjoy

Excellent, thanks for the replies. The vehicle is all stock so should be fine.

It’d be a ball ache to be sent home on the day if it was over the limits.

But with 2 cats and the GT rear silencer that’s the quiet version. With 1 cat and the Supersport rear silencer, mine would fail!

Good point. That must be quite loud.

A shade under 100db, been checked many times at Castle Combe and just pass!
