Car failing to (re-) Start, help needed!

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 1992 Mk1 / Na V-Spec
  2. I’m based near: Kettering, Northamptonshire
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Engine Trouble

Hi All,

My 92 V-Spec Na Miata has been having a few problems recently.

Its just come off a full engine refresh and now there a little gremlin somewhere that’s causing my engine to fail to start.

The car will initially start up no problem, but after maybe an hour or so of driving the throttle starts to get weird and unresponsive ( it feels almost like there’s a delay between me putting my foot down and the engine responding ).

If the car stalls, which gets increasingly easier the longer its running, then it wont restart until its been left again for a few hours.

That said, it’ll turn over fine but just wont ignite.

Has anyone seen anything like this before and / or have any clue as to what could be causing this?

Coil pack?

It’s in a hot position at the back of the head. I had a MK2 that did something similar. Replacing the coil pack seemed to fix it for a while. But I was never certain that was the problem.

Sounds a bit like the symptoms displayed when an engine coolant temperature sensor is giving wrong signals. Has that been replaced as part of the engine work?
