I have just bought a early 2018 MX5 mk4 bought from Invictor Motors in Maidstone. The car came without a jack and wheel brace and when I querried this I was told by the garage that the car did not come with a jack and brace out of the factory. Can anyone confirm if this is true.
Yes it is.
Correct as it comes with a tyre inflating kit , all new cars do not come with jacks unless you have a space saver
My 2014 NC never came with a jack , but i managed to get a brand new one from one of the people that races MX5s and they strip out parts from crashed cars m i was lucky as the owner of the car they were stripping actually bought a jack from mazda , then he had he had an accident and the insurance company wrote it off
Thank you Ian. It is the first car that I have owned that did not come with one. I am very surprised.
Thank you Rob. Its an ND but from what you say it would apply to this model as well as Ian has confirmed. I will be looking out for a second hand jack in the future.
My ND didn’t come with these either. Logic being you’re carrying around extra weight unnecessarily and seeing as a spare wheel isn’t provided, there’s no need for a roadside ‘emergency’ scissor jack or a method of removing the wheel nuts.
Whenever I swap wheels round I use a proper trolley jack, so there’s no need for any additional items to be stored in the car. If something did happen to a tyre at the roadside, I’d attempt a temporary repair with the tyre sealant kit. Or if that wasn’t viable or safe, arrange roadside recovery to a garage.
That’s my approach anyway
Cheers,
Steve
Thanks Steve.
Give this guy a ring he is in chelmsford and does post things out he prepares Mx5 cars for racing and strips out the parts and sells he don’t need , i got my jack from him , he may have one >

Have a look on eBay. There are plenty of scissor jacks and wheel braces available from written off cars. Fortunately they are generic so you don’t have to get a Mazda one.
I purchased one from a local car breaker near Leeds.it also came with the large bolt/screw to fix it into the holder.£20.
You see genuine MX-5 jacks on ebay. They are the same for all models, and they fit the bracket hidden behind the flap in the right rear wing. There’s a T screw to hold it in place - try and find one that includes it.
I can’t carry a spare wheel, but I like to have a means of removing a wheel so that, with help, I could at least take one somewhere to get a tyre swapped. I also carry tyre string and an extra gloop option! Not too bothered about the extra precautions while in the UK but we use the MX-5 most years for touring in other countries.
Thank you everyone for your help on the jacks.
