Car key snapped! :(

went to lock up the car today after work and the key snapped :frowning: its locked though but as a result i cannot open the drivers side door so only way is using the passenger side door.luckily i have a spare (and much stronger) key. is there any way i can remove the leftover part of the key from its lock? i dont wanna go down the locksmith route as it is expensive.if not i might see if anyone is willing to sell from a breaking mx5 mk1 a door lock, handle and key

Can you get to the broken bit of key with tweezers or snipe nose pliers? If not turn car on its side and shakeStick Tongue Out

Havent tried it yet but the snapped part is quite deep into the lock :frowning:

Have you tried puting a bit of superglue on the bit of the key of have and then holding it agianst the broken section, it might give you enough grip to gently pull the broken section out. (be carefull not to have glue on the sides of the key).

Attempted to get to lock yesterday from door panel removal but couldnt without major disassembly.

Funny enough after all that my spare key (which can lock and open everything) fitted in - not too sure what happened to the broken piece inside the lock? lol

Removal of the locka and barrel isn’t too hard; door trim off, undo a couple of plastic clips that attach the rods on the external door handle assembly. Undo the two 10mm nuts (you need a socket and extension, a dab of grease on the socket is a good idea, to stop you dropping the nut inside the door) and the door handle drops out.

This set of pictures might give you an idea what is going on with your lock:
