Car keys for my mk2

Hi all . I can’t find my car keys anywhere …most embarrassing …I’ve managed to open the car door but was wondering do I need to buy a new key and barrel…or is there a chip in the early MK 2 car Keys. she is in storage at the moment for the winter but now the weather is getting better I wanted to give her a spring clean and service…but alas!…no keys. Any advice would be most appreciated ?.

Mk2 will have immobiliser unless its JDM import. If you dont find the keys you are in trouble. It will need ecu/immobiliser unit and key ,all matching “married” set .We have some in stock depending on the number on the ecu(under passengers feet area, covered by steel plate)PM me if you need info /details etc

Hi Neil

Do you have a note of the fixed data held on your transponder chip?

If you are not sure, perhaps the previous owner kept it on record. You are looking for 8 blocks of 4 characters. Originally there would have been 2 keys with the car, each with different data held on the transponder chip.

If you had this data, a new chip with the correct transponder information could easily be created for you.

All MK1 and MK2 owners with immobilisers would be wise to keep a record of the transponder chip data held on their keys, particularly if there is only one of them:-)

Interesting. How do you read/find the data on the transponder chip so you can make a record of it?

Hi EG

Before moving to south Devon, four and a half years ago, I lived in Coventry for 10 years - we could have worked something out.

You just need someone with a transponder chip reader to read your key(s) data. I am sure Timpsons would do this for you very cheaply.

If you only have one key and it is a MK1 or MK2 car, you are taking a big risk. Unfortunately there in nothing that can be done with the MK2.5 as rolling security means that the data on the chip changes every time the cars ignition is turned on/off.

Thanks Rhino. I have two keys so hopefully not life threatening. I was just curious how you did this…
