I’m looking to maintain the recaro car seats. The drivers seat is showing wear and I’m wondering how best to address this, with a long term solution in mind.
What approaches are you aware of, and what would you recommend?

It’s hard to say these days what is actually animal, and what is clever kid-on. Whatever your “fabric” may be, it needs “filled” with special feeds and treated to stabalise it. As for the piping, In both cases my personal preferance would be employing the expertise of a specialist business. A friend of mine with an 8 years old Merc had the same thing. When he got it back…it looked just off the production line. And it was a lot worse that yours.. Just my take. Opinions differ as usual. Whether they are leatherette or animal skin could be important to what you buy. That Merc’s seats turned out to be a mix of both in panels. Just enough hide to give the luxury scents. The dash and console are leather. The seats were a mix for durability.
Really useful, thank you. Spent some time speaking to a few places and have it booked in end of month for full piping replacement, and replacing leather on bolster.
Will try to take some like for like pics to share once complete in case anyone else has a similar situation.
Car seat where work replaced came back looking like new ![]()
Very pleased with outcome, specifically colour match on the piping and overall workmanship, as well as the easeinitially of agreeing a price and arranging the work to be carried out.
The piping (complete top half of the seat) was replaced, along with a patch of leather on the left hand side bolster which was showing signs of wear.
If anyone is near to Bedfordshire or Buckinghamshire, I used Dave the trimmer. I decided to take the car seat out and deliver to them although I’m sure they can handle either way.
