As i have access to five vehicles and i have the ‘Vehicle Smart’ app on my phone it is easy enough to keep track of which van or car is due for taxing or MOTing.
However, i am or was well aware that the MX5 tax is due in twelve days 1/12/18, so earlier on this evening i checked the app out of curiosity and it now states 'taxed for the next 378 days??? so i immediately check my banking app which shows no outgoing or pending payments!
Now i am confused, surely i should have had some kind of notification be it an e-mail or letter telling me what when and how etc.
Anyone else in the same quandary and how can they presume i have enough funds in this account without some prior notice.
What the heck Dave - I thought this app was a reminder service. Are you saying that your account has somehow been debited by the app for next years tax ahead of time?
But not by the app as the app is just an information tool that tells you your MOT history and when the tax is due.
Maybe because it is a Sunday the e-mails will update tomorrow.
If you have this app, put my reg number in (i don’t mind) and see what comes up bear in mind no money has left my account and i’ve had no notification.
As far as car tax is concerned you usually get a letter through the post to remind you. For MOT’s register with the government MOT website (Google search ’ Car MOT history’) and register for a reminder by e mail one month before your MOT expires. Maybe not as convenient as an App but it works for me.
Dave - sure you didn’t stick ‘auto renewal’ on your payment details, if so it would confirm paid though they haven’t actually drawn on the account yet? - Just a thought.
You’ve always been lucky I would just wait and see mate. Keep your eye on the bank but see what happens at beginning of December. Free VED is quite nice I guess? Not even sure if you could “re licence” the vehicle for a second time if it’s showing as already being done? Take everything I’ve said in the manner it was intended Dave (tongue in cheek) I know you’re as straight as a die mate.
Confusion is now sorted, basically i received an e-mail this afternoon…
Dear sir, thankyou for ‘automatically’ renewing your direct debit, your vehicle is taxed and the payment will leave your account within 4 days of the renewal date…blah blah blah…and woe betide if there is no money in your account as the sky will fall in and you will be hung drawn and quartered.

I also have several vehicles and pay tax via DD for them all, worth the small extra charge for the peace of mind that I won’t forget to tax one, no brainier really.
