Can someone on here please confirm whether the tax exemption still applies on older cars. If so is it 20 years, 25 years or god forbid even older.
Hi,
My daughters Moggie was first registered in 07/70 & is tax exempt, i know its around the latest age for exemption

oops just found the website to help you, ‘historic vehicles’ made before 01/73 are exempt

Hope this helps

Sadly I have a lot longer to wait then.
Thanks for the replies
Joy, your MX5 is never going to be tax exempt, good old GB stopped the concession—
Chances are Geoff I wouldn’t have lived long enough to get it anyway.
I will just carry on enjoying my lovely little 5.
Sometimes you get a vehicle that was REGISTERED in 1973 but BUILT in 1972.Therefore it is tax exempt. In cases like this, you can check with the manufacturer to see exactly when it was made.
Yep - they stopped it rolling at 25 years old and nailed it at 01 Jan 73 but as mentioned the critical thing is MANUFACTURED before that date. Vosa won’t even question the construction date if your car was registered in the first 2 weeks of '73 (at least they didn’t) and will just accept your word for it. Beyond that if you can prove that the car was built before '73 then no matter when it was registered it’s taxation class can be changed to Historic Vehicle and you don’t need to pay for your tax disc again.
